Episode 12: A Lost Odyssey
Summary:
When Dr. Rough steals the alien technology, he requires Opal and her
information to crack the language needed to operate everything. What starts out
as an interrogations leads to something far darker…
We begin with Opal’s funeral. It’s pouring
outside as those who knew her (both CIA and HimTak) mourning the loss of her.
Pearl, K, Red, Jay, Nick, Styx and Leo are those who show from HimTak. K goes
to try and comfort Brian. Brian, angry and bitter goes…"Save it, I don't want to hear it. You didn't do a damn thing to
try and save her, so you're as responsible as the rest of them." Then
he walks over to Nick and says "You
were right, the government is fucked. You don't realize that your precious
organization is just as fucked as them." He walks off angry and upset,
lightening and flashing across the sky.
Backtracking to Brian and Opal, a few days
before. Opal’s complaining about the FBI and how they’ve been negotiating with
terrorists when they should be bringing them down. She says stuff like…"you have the right idea working WITH
HimTak rather than against them. If we'd just UNITE with HimTak we could shut
down terrorists completely." Or
"I'm starting to see what Nick does about our government. He's not deluded
like you think he is..." – Rose
Opal
quits her job at the CIA, having had enough and actually telling her boss how
"I can't work for an organization that makes deals with terrorists but
puts down the group actually trying to stop them.". She and Brian get
in an argument over it; he’s confused by her actions and senses she may not be
saying everything.
Brian calls
Nick and tells him Opal quit the CIA.
Nick is surprised, but happy with Opal's decision. This annoys Brian. The phone call ends when Nick is called to a
meeting at HimTak to discuss the break-in and theft of the dream machine in
Pearl's lab. Only the 00-Agents (plus Pearl obviously) are at this meeting,
because of how serious the situation is.
– Gozde
Nick is in his
room a couple days later drawing, when he gets another call. He thinks it’s
Brian again, and is surprised to hear Opal’s voice. She’s only able to get out
the world “Hello?” before he hears a gunshot fired. He yells hear name
repeatedly to no answer.
Brian gets the
call from Nick while he’s at work at the CIA HQ, panicked when he tells him
what he heard. Brian rushes out to find Opal…only to find her dead in their
home. The place is trashed a bit, and her laptop is missing, to allude to a
robbery gone wrong. To Brian though, with the accuracy of the shot, he feels
it’s clearly a government hit. – Lore
Back to the
funeral, this time, we see it from Dr. Rough’s perspective, who’s watching from
his temporary lair in DC thanks to the camera planted on his mole (Styx) in
HimTak. He muses on the events and the successes and failures that have come
from them. As well as the possibility of recruiting Brian, now that he’s
officially cut ties with the CIA himself.
Backtracking
yet again, this time…it’s Dr. Rough watching his computer monitor with Mulder
and Scully at the FBI…blackmailing them about the alien technology. He
threatens to go public despite their protests that they don’t have the complete
information on the alien language. He shuts off the computer, slamming a random
piece of art to the ground in fury. – Mel
Drums walks
in, holding out the phone to Dr. Rough, telling him it’s their informer. Styx
(Well, we say it’s a voice) tells him that Opal and Pearl have successfully
decoded it together. Dr. Rough muses on which one to use, when Styx tells him
that Pearl’s too well protected within her lab. Drums confirms this, and so he
puts out the order for Drums to kidnap Opal so that they can get what they need
from her.
Kidnapping
scene where Drums takes Opal from her home while Brian is at work. Forces her
to leave a note saying she went away for a few days to think on things. This
way, while Brian may think it’s odd, he won’t be on a manhunt for her just yet. – Sarah
Interrogation
scene with Opal, she tells him nothing. As they keep trying, Styx checks in
with Dr. Rough via his communicator, and Opal recognizes the voice. You can write in Styx's dialogue to Dr. Rough
without identifying the speaker, and just have Opal realize the voice sounds
familiar and accuse Dr. Rough of having a mole in HimTak - do not say who the
mole is, so the readers will continue to wonder (and suspect Leo).
Dr. Rough
knows he can’t let her live now. But pretends he can, and lets her go. Opal is
afraid and doesn’t feel safe. He has Drums track her and spy so that the minute
she picks up the phone to call Nick at HimTak, he puts a bullet through her
brain and takes her out. He ransacks the place and takes what he needs. End the
scene with Nick’s voice yelling her name over the phone. – Julie
