The Scene:
Biblioteca Nacional
del Perú, Lima
The Crime:
Theft of multiple titles from National Library’s rare book
collection, including gold-embossed tomes and parchments dating back to the
sixteenth century. Despite its modern
structure, the library lacks sufficient security cameras and appropriate
supervision, and it’s estimated that some six hundred volumes have gone missing
in recent years. Due to a spotty and
out-of-date inventory, it is impossible to know exactly what was stolen and
when the thefts took place.
