Too Perfect

Chapter 2:  Practical Jokes

Eventually everyone made their way downstairs for breakfast.  Well, everyone except Nick.  If it were up to him he’d sleep twenty-four hours a day.  Howie, sharing my thoughts, said, “Do you think we should wake Nick up?”  I saw a sly smile begin to form on Brian’s face.  He looked at A.J. who also began smiling.

“Oh don’t worry,” Brian said. “I think he’ll be up pretty soon.”

A.J. looked at his watch and then counted to three. “One, two, three.”

“AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!  Holy SHIT!” Nick’s deafening screams came from upstairs.

The next moment he was stumbling down the stairs looking as though he’d seen a ghost.

“Okay what did you guys do this time?” Kevin said rolling his eyes.

He was and forever would be the mature one.

“Well, we thought we’d set Nick’s alarm this morning so he got up with the rest of us,” Brain supplied innocently.

“My alarm???!!” Nick retorted.  “You guys did more than that.  I woke up to Brian’s head sitting on my dresser!  I thought some sicko had decapitated my best friend.”

Nick was still breathing hard.

“Guys, that is sick!” Anita looked repulsed, but seemed to be stifling giggles.

“Hey we are just getting him back for the time he put a dead rat in Brian’s dressing room,” A.J. defended himself.  “Frankly I think that one was worse, it was real.”

I just laughed this was so typical.  The guys were always pulling pranks on each other.  Like the time they threw Nick out of the dressing room in his underwear or the time Brian put pink hair dye in Nick’s shampoo.  He had fluorescent pink hair for two weeks.  It was always funny to see what they came up with.

“Where in the world did you get a replica of Brian’s head?” Howie asked.

“Well I have this friend that works at a wax museum in Lexington, who was kind enough to make it for me,” Brian shrugged.

Nick just smiled.

“This is war, Frick,” he said narrowing his eyes.

“You’re on, Frack,” Brian replied.

“We’ll whip you pretty boy,” A.J. added.

Anita shook her head. “Well, while you guys engage in World War III,  I think I’m going to hit the lake.”

“Good idea!” I said.

Everyone else murmured in agreement and soon enough we were all at the beach by the man made lake behind the cabin.  I laid out a beach blanket and sat down in my flowered bikini.  Howie, Kevin, and A.J. were already in the water tossing around a football.  Anita was sun tanning and Brian and Nick were still inside.  I began wondering if they were all ready getting revenge on each other.  Usually I sat under the sun with Anita, but today the temperature must have been at least 35 degrees Celsius.  Too hot if you asked me, so I joined the guys in the water.  The water was cool but not too bad.  I made it to my waist.  I looked around at the beauty of the mountains and the pine trees, the crystal clear water and the bright blue sky.  There wasn’t a cloud in sight.  I started shivering a little.

“Cold?” a voice whispered huskily behind me.

I felt Brian’s arms slip around my waist.  He pulled me close to him. And lightly kissed my neck.  I shivered again, but this time it wasn’t because of the water.  I turned around in his arms so I could face him.  I looked into his blue eyes and suddenly the whole world melted away.  Our lips touched.  The kiss was amazing.  I could feel his hands on my bare back.  He pulled away.

“Better?” he asked.

I smiled. “Much.”

Then he pulled me in again.  The rest of the morning was a pretty typical day at the beach, we played a few games of beach volleyball, sun tanned and just generally had a good time.
