My Favorite Fanfics

This is the page for links to my absolute favorite stories on the net.  I read my first fanfic back in the summer of ‘99, and I have read a lot since then. The fanfics listed below are my all-time favorites, so I suggest you check them out. To the authors of these stories - you guys are very talented, and I love your stories very much!

Some of these links don’t work anymore, and I’m sorry about that.  Many of them are several years old, and I’m not sure exactly what happened to them.  If you know of any of these that have been moved to a different site, please let me know and give me the new link so I can fix it.  Thanks, and sorry for the inconvenience!

All My Life

This is one of my hosted stories and one of my old favorites as well.  It’s a great romantic tearjerker.

Ants Go Marching

An awesome suspense story.  A Bsb fan gets kidnapped, and one of the Backstreet Boys is the key to saving her life.  Twisted and confusing, but intriguing as well.  A great story so far!

Note: This story is no longer online, so this is a Wayback Machine link.  The story was never finished, and what is there of it will suck you in, get you addicted, and then never resolve itself and leave you hanging.  I’m leaving the link here because this is one of my favorites, but because it seems doomed to remain unfinished forever, you might want to check out other suspense fics before you get yourself hooked on this one.

The Backstreet Baby Series

This is a series of HILARIOUS short stories involving the five Backstreet Boys and Brian’s baby.  Sooo damn amusing, definitely a must-read!

Beautiful Girl

This one is a short story, and I usually don’t put too many short stories up here, but this one is worth it.  It’s just plain FREAKY!  It goes from rather amusing to delightfully disturbing, and it is NOT a romance.

Between the Lines

This is an old classic that is on a lot of people’s favorites lists, but it’s actually a recent addition to mine.  It’s an AU in which the Boys are baseball players for the Seattle Mariners.  I didn’t really into it the first time I tried reading it, years ago, because I’m not really big on most Aus, and the baseball thing didn’t do much for me either.  I became more of a baseball fan in college, so I decided to give it another try and fell in love with it.  I now know why so many people like this story – it really is a terrific fic!  The characters, Backstreet and non-Backstreet alike, are all awesome; you’ll come to love them all.  The baseball aspect makes for a really interesting AU story – the mental image of the guys in baseball pants for 81 chapters is an added bonus. ;)   And the plot is really good too.  It’s one of those stories that has a little bit of everything – tons of interaction between the guys, some romance, a lot of humor, and plenty of scenes that will tug at your heartstrings too.  Whether you like baseball or not, check this one out; it’s worth the read!

Cardio

I have the honor of hosting this awesome story.  This is one of my old favorites.  It is the ultimate tearjerker.  I cried more at this story than I have at any other fanfic I’ve ever read.  It’s just a great story!

Come Together

This is an adorable story about the beginning of Backstreet.  It’s co-written by Izzy and Cecilia, who are both amazing writers.  I guarantee any Bsb fan will enjoy reading this one.

Cover Me With Dreams

This is a romance/drama that was recommended to me by a reader (thanks, Diana!).  It sounded like it could be a good story, so I went and checked it out… omg, such a great story!  It’s totally adorable and has one of those truly great fanfic couples, the ones you just fall in love with yourself.  It’s written in unique way, alternating between the present and the past, showing both the events that take place after the starting point and what has happened in the past to lead up to that point.  This is very cleverly done.  The story is also very informative, and I’ve learned a lot just from reading it.  A bit of a warning – it is a mature romance, and there are sex scenes.  I think they’re fairly tastefully done, but even so, they’re there, so if you’re uncomfortable with reading that kind of thing, take caution.  I would still suggest giving the story a try either way though – you can just skim through those scenes, and the story would still be excellent without them.

Crash and Burn

This is a great short story.  It’s so sad!

Documentaries

This is a great short story told from AJ’s POV, centering on Nick, but involving the whole group.  It focuses on the relationships between the guys, and it’s a story that any Backstreet fan will love.

Faceless

This is an awesome Nick story.  It’s sort of a romance/drama/suspense that reminded me a lot of a take on “Beauty and the Beast” (I asked the author, Jaydee, about that, and she said it wasn’t inspired by that, but if you compare the plots and characters, the similarities are striking).  Once you get into it, you’ll be hooked.

Note: This story hasn’t been working on Jaydee’s site for awhile now, but it’s been preserved elsewhere.  The only thing missing is the prologue, which was a newspaper article that was posted as a graphic, so that it looked like a newspaper.  What you need to know for the story to make sense is this: A year before the story begins, the Backstreet Boys were involved in a fiery bus crash.  Kevin, Howie, Brian, and AJ escape unharmed, but Nick is missing.  After enough time passes, he is presumed dead, but his body is never found.  The prologue was just a couple of fictional articles about the crash.

A Final Gift

This is probably my favorite short story.  It’s so sweet, and I was in tears by the end of it.

Finding Brotherhood

This story is absolutely BRILLIANT.  Mersey, the author, is a GENIUS.  Read this story, and you’ll be amazed.  It’s an extremely powerful group story that begins during The Hiatus, after Now or Never was released.  I advise you, read the first chapter all the way through before you make any judgments… it’s not what it seems.  I began this story thinking it was going to be one thing, and it turned out to be totally different (and much cooler).  This was one of those stories that I got hooked on right away and just keep on reading; I couldn’t stop.  Definitely check this one out!  It’s not too long, so you can easily read it in a few sittings.

Garden

This is a story by Louise, one of my newer online friends and an INCREDIBLE writer!  This story will have you hooked from the first chapter, and, if you’re like me, will have you in tears throughout the whole thing.  Kevin is the focus of the story, but all of the guys have big roles in it too.  All five Boys are portrayed extremely well.  It’s a total drama, with tons of emotion, and it’s very realistic.  And it’s not very long either – you can easily read it all in one sitting.  If you like drama, this is a must-read.

Happenstance

To be honest, I’m usually not a big reader of pure romance stories… I don’t mind romance, but the romances I normally like are the kind where something bad happens in the middle and there’s lots of drama and sadness and all that.  There is drama in this story, but not that kind of drama (at least not so far).  But it is a GREAT romance!!!  It’s completely adorable and so sweet it makes you want to fall in love.  Definitely a great story to read if you’re in a romantic mood or want to be in one.

Heart of the Matter

This is a great story about Brian’s heart surgery in ’98.  It is very realistic and really well written.

Update: Thanks to Pat for sending me a new link to this story.  The only problem is that the story’s only posted up to Chapter 4 on this site, and it was a little bit longer (and finished) when I read it.  So if anyone knows where to find a finished version, please let me know.  Thanks!

Heaven’s Eyes

This is another really sad, really good short story.

The Importance of Fly Fishing

This an adorable comedy/drama about Kevin taking Nick on a fishing trip in Kentucky.  It’ll have you cracking up one minute and tearing up the next; the author, Mare, is great at doing that!!

In The End

Okay first to access this story, go to “Imaginings” on the left frame, and that’ll get you to the stories list.  Sorry I had to link it like this – couldn’t get the direct link to the story itself.  Disabling right clicking is BAD, don’t do it!  But despite that, this is a great story!!!  It’s a romance, and it runs along the “falling in love with your best friend” plotline, but it is so not your typical little romance like that.  For one thing, the “falling in love” part isn’t all instantaneous like in most stories.  The author, Karina, develops it slowly and realistically until you’re screaming at the screen, “Oh, come ON, just hook up already!!!”  But it’s great that way, isn’t it?? =D  The couple is absolutely adorable, already one of my favorite fanfic couples, I think, and the female lead isn’t your typical female lead.  She’s not a Mary Sue at all; she’s got plenty of flaws and issues that you don’t see a lot of in Bsb fics, and that adds a spark of originality to the plot and makes it more than “just a romance.”   Oh yeah, and there are some GREAT kisses!!!  You know how almost every awards site has a Best Kiss category?  I never used to know of any story with a kiss that really stood out enough for me to nominate it… well, now I do.  :)

It Stays With You

This is a great drama/suspense written by Mare, who is awesome at this genre.  It centers around Brian and Nick and is written differently from a lot of other suspenses, which makes it unique and cool.  If you like suspense and/or angst, give this one a try!

Living at the Top

This is a great angst/drama about the whole group.  It’s sad in a depressingly realistic way, and I love how it’s written.  The author, Mare, does a wonderful job at portraying all five guys and their feelings.  It depressed me, even made me cry, but I promise, it’s a GREAT read!

Living in a Nightmare

This is a story by my friend Rachel.   It’s an awesome story, very suspenseful!  Plus, it’s a tearjerker as well.

The Market

This is such a great story!  Although it seems like a romance, it’s definitely more of a drama, and just when you think you have the whole story figured out, it throws a major twist at you and turns out to be totally different.  Lots of cuteness and humor mixed with seriousness and sadness, plus wonderful character and setting descriptions.

The Mig Witch Project

This one is not a tearjerker, like many of the other stories on this page.  It is a parody of the Blair Witch Project, and it kind of makes fun of Bsb, but it is hilarious, so I decided to put it on this page anyway. If you have a sense of humor, you'll love this one.

Mind Games

Wow, this story is addicting!  It’s unlike anything I’ve ever read before, and once I got into it, I was hooked.   It’s an awesome story!  It’s pretty twisted though and has a lot of violence and some adult content in it, so if you’re not mature enough to handle stuff like that, beware.

My Missing Half

This is a drama about Nick becoming paralyzed in a car accident.  It’s very realistic, well-written and well-researched.  It’s VERY detailed, sometimes to the point of being graphic, and so I only recommend it for mature readers who can handle hard-hitting, yet realistic details.  I read it when I was working on the last part of my story Broken, and because of the subject matter I was writing about, I really appreciated this story for what it was.  The author, Amanda, did a wonderful job on it, and that’s why it’s on this list.

The Nick and Lizz Series:

You Go, I Go

Blind Rage

This is an awesome drama/suspense series and one of the most addicting things I have ever read.  The full series is actually seven novels long, but it was taken offline by the authors years ago, and parts of it are now missing.  One of the authors, Jenna, is currently putting it back online, but the entire third story is missing.  If any of you read it when it was still online the first time and by some miracle saved have copies of the series (especially the third story, Lost Innocence) saved somewhere, PLEASE email me at rokofages75@dreamers-sanctuary.com.  Thanks!

The Nick and Meggie Series:

Goodbye, My Friend

Faithfully

Grow Old With Me

This is a trilogy by one of my oldest favorite authors, Jen, aka JJ.   It centers around Nick and starts out as pretty much a pure tearjerker/drama, then develops into more of a romance, but with still plenty of drama!  It’s so sad, but really sweet too… one of those “aww!” worthy series.

Nothing is Chance

This one’s a very well written story by Auctor.  It’s a Brian tearjerker.  There’s not too much else I can say about it, but I assure you, it’s a great read!

Nowhere to Run

This story is written by one of my favorite authors, Whitney, and is just awesome.  It’s a hostage-type story centering around Brian and AJ.  Very suspenseful and well-written.

On the Outside

This is an AU modeled after “The Outsiders.”  I’m ashamed to say I’ve never read/seen “The Outsiders,” but after reading this story, I want to!  I wasn’t sure I would like this one when I started reading it because 1) I hadn’t read The Outsiders, and 2) I’m pretty selective on my AUs, but I fell in love with it.  The Boys are become very loveable characters as a group of orphans living in a harsh world, and the original characters the author, Amy, brings in are every bit as vibrant.  You’ll get sucked in to the alternate universe she brings to life and laugh and cry right along with the Boys in the story.

The One Sweet Day Series

I love this whole series.  It’s awesome.  There’s a great mix of romance and suspense in it, and it’s a tearjerker as well.

Remember Me This Way

This is a novel written by Jen (aka JJ), whose first story was the first fanfic I ever read back in ’99.  She’s written a lot of stories since, and I’ve read nearly all of them, but this is her best yet!  It’s a Nick drama, very well-written and well-researched, with great characters.  If you like my stories, you’re bound to like this one, so check it out!

Scared of Reality

This is such an awesome story!  It’s a Brian and Nick kidnapping story that will definitely have you on the edge of your seat and not knowing what the hell is going to happen next.  It’s a must-read if you like suspense!

Second Chances

This is a must-read for any Brian romance fan!  In a time when Brian romances are few and far between, this story is a true gem.  It’s sweet, realistic, and fairly unpredictable, as far as romances go.  Most of the story takes place from 2002 to 2005, and the author, Sarah, does a great job at interweaving the real life events in Bsb land from those years with her fictional storyline.  This story is very well-written and definitely worth the read!  It has a fantastic sequel too, which can be found in my Hosted Stories section.

Signal to Noise

This is an AWESOME suspense/mystery about an online psychopath plotting to torture and kill the Backstreet Boys.  It’s got lots of suspense, drama, some comic relief, and even a bit of romance. It IS rated NC-17 though because of some adult content (violence, sex, rape, homosexuality, etc.), but if you’re mature enough to handle that stuff and not be too offended, please read it anyway.  It’s definitely worth it, and you can just skim through the sex scenes if you want to.

Soul Warrior

I am usually not a huge fan of sci-fi or fantasy fics, but this is one of the few of these types of stories that I have read willingly and actually enjoyed!  This story has a great plot, full of action and twists and memorable characters and all that.  If you like adventure stories or the Brian JaquesRedwall” books, you will probably like this story (it’s actually nothing like the Redwall books, but the way certain characters are written did remind me of his style, so… yeah LOL).

Summer of a Lifetime

Well, to be honest, this one’s a bit of a teenybopper story.   But, believe it or not, I like it or at least used to (haven’t read it in like three years though)! *gasp*.  This is really one of the only teenybopper stories that I will admit to liking.  It’s one of those stories that you just get into, even if you don’t usually like teenybopper stories.  It’s like a soap-opera - twists, turns, and love triangles galore.  Also features ‘N Sync.  It’s not written the best, and it doesn’t get too many points for originality, but it’s fun.

Survivor

This story is awesome!  It’s about the Backstreet Boys and ‘N Sync competing against each other on the show “Survivor”, but it’s not a parody; it’s a real fanfic.  It’s very well written and extremely funny, as well as suspenseful.

The Swollen Issues Series:

Swollen Issues

Swollen Issues II

Swollen Issues III

If you like Nick, and you like drama, this trilogy is for you!  Ranging from quite amusing to extremely sad, these stories are realistic and well-written.  Jenna and Swenglish, the authors, take a pretty common fanfic plot and turn it into a masterpiece.  Once you get reading, you won’t be able to stop.

The Tomorrow Isn’t Easy Trilogy:

I Could Not Ask For More

It’s Your Love

If It’s Over

This is without a doubt the best take on the “girl gets a record deal and opens for the Bsb” storyline I’ve ever read.  It is a romance, but it’s so much more than that.  There’s drama and suspense, and the whole group is heavily involved.  The second and third story get away from the typical “opening act” plot, so that description doesn’t do the series justice at all.  It’s truly addicting.

Trapped

This is just an awesome story written by the co-author of “Swollen Issues,” Jenna.   The plot is very original and well thought out, and it’s both sad and suspenseful.   Centers around Brian and Nick.

Where Can We Go From Here?

This story is my absolute favorite story!   It is very well written and just a great tearjerker!  It’s a bus crash story, but out of all the bus crash stories, it is by far THE BEST.  Very unique and captivating.  Even after I finished reading this story, I couldn’t stop thinking about it.  That’s how amazing it is.  This one’s a classic – you’ll find it on most people’s favorites list, and once you read it, you’ll understand why.

A Write Kind of Love

This is a cool story about a Backstreet fan named Veronica who writes Nick a letter, never expecting him to actually read it.  But Nick, who normally never has time to read his fan mail, randomly swipes one letter out of a big bag of them in his management’s office to read.  This begins a correspondence that quickly turns into a friendship, as Nick and Veronica realize how much they have in common.  This story is like every Backstreet fan’s most simple fantasy, and it’s written in a believable way, with really well-developed, realistic characters to support the plot.  It’s a great read for anyone who appreciates character-driven stories.
