“Oh
Kristin. I’m so sorry you have to be going through this.” Stopping at Kevin and
Kristin’s bedroom door Lily dropped her hand to the knob turning it. “I wish I
could take the pain away for you.”
“I
know you do. You’re a true friend Leslie.” Kristin caught the eye of the piano
player, smiling wanly as he plucked out the notes to “She’s Always A Woman to
Me” by Billy Joel.
“Hang
on sweetie the other line is ringing.”
Sitting
down on Kevin and Kristin’s bed Lily clicked the phone over.
“Hello.”
“It’s
done.” Said the male voice on the other end of the line.
“How
long ago?” Lily asked stroking her hand along the comforter on Kevin’s side of
the bed. Imagining him lying there sound asleep-
“Two
minutes.” The voice replied.
“I
owe you Mark.” Lily’s voice turned soft and seductive.
“Yes
Leslie…..you do.” And then the line went dead.
Clicking
back over Lily smiled.
“Sorry
Kris it was my Mom calling to say hi. Listen sweetie I think you should go and
talk to him, try and straighten this out. He needs to know this is just some
big misunderstanding.”
“You’re
right.” Picking up her wrinkled cocktail napkin Kris wiped her nose. “I’m going
to go and see if he is back yet and straighten this all out.”
“Good
luck sweetheart.”

Nick
pushed his way through the hotel doors, pausing in the lobby to sign a few
autographs and pose for a few pictures before stopping at the front desk to
pick up any messages me might have.
“Hey
do you know if Mr. Bone Digger has returned to his room?” Kevin always used the
same name to check into the hotels while the rest of them preferred to change
their names around. This tour Nick was checking into all of the hotels under
the name “Mr. Gus Fun Dip”.
“Yes
Mr. Fun Dip.” The clerk replied trying not to laugh. “Mr.Bone Digger returned
to his room about forty five minutes ago. He asked not to be disturbed.”
“Oh
he did, did he?” Nick propped his elbows up on the counter with a smile. “Well
between you and me I never do what Mr. Bone Digger wants me to do so I think he
would be disappointed if I didn’t stop by to say hello.” Batting his eyelashes
at the girl Nick turned heading towards the elevators.
“Nick?”
Pushing the up button Nick turned at the sound of his name.
“Kris?”
Kristin stepped into the soft light of the corridor with such a sad look on her
tear stained cheeks it made Nick’s heart ache.
“What’s
wrong?” Stepping away from the elevators he reached out for her hand.
“Everything.”
She moaned dropping her hand into his palm, letting him envelope her icy cold
hand with his warm fingers.
“I
think you guys need to talk things out Kris.” Nick stroked the back of her
hand. “He’s up in his room now, we can go together.”

Putting
his key card in the lock Nick waited for the click.
“Hey
you know Kris if things don’t work out with you and Kevin I’m always
available?” He planted a friendly kiss on the top of her head.
“You
idiot.” She smiled slugging him in the chest as he opened the door. “Only you
could make me laugh at a time like this.”
Walking
into the darkened room Nick’s hand stroked the wall looking for the light
switch just as the lamp in the corner of the room turned on illuminating Kevin
sitting in the chair beside it.
“Hey
Kev, what’s going on?” Stepping inside the room behind Kristin Nick closed the
door behind them.
Before
either one of them could blink Kevin pushed out of his chair advancing on them
quickly, fire in his eyes.
“HOW
COULD YOU?” He screamed pointing a finger at Kristin.
“Kevin.”
Kristin stumbled backwards with surprise into Nick’s chest, Nick hooking a
protective arm around her as he attempted to ward Kevin off with the other
hand.
“Kevin
what the fuck are you doing?”
Stopping
Kevin’s eyes glowed fierce in the dim lamplight of the room.
“What’s
this?” He said with a disgusted smile running his finger up and down from
Kristin to Nick and back again. “Are you fucking him too?”
“What
are you talking about?” Kristin felt her body tense as Nick’s arm tightened
around her holding her safely in his grasp. “You’re not even making any sense
Kevin?”
“So
are you one of my wife’s lovers Nick?”
“Kevin
just shut up now man.” Nick’s voice was steady.
“Shut
up? Are you serious Nick.” Backing up Kevin laughed. “You know I could kick your
ass with both hands tied behind my back you miserable little puke.”
“C’mon
Kris I think we should go.” With his arm still around Kris Nick backed up
towards the door.
“Aren’t
you forgetting something?” Kevin whispered looking down at his clenched fist.
Turning
Kris broke away from Nick walking towards her husband.
“Kevin
please……..what are you talking about?”
“THIS!”
He screamed opening his fist to reveal the three vials of cocaine. “I’M TALKING
ABOUT THIS……THIS AND YOUR FUCKING AFFAIR WITH MARK CAUDIFF.” Throwing the vials
of cocaine at her Kristin screamed.
“Kevin
stop it.” Coming forward out of the doorway Nick pushed Kristin out of the way
before grabbing Kevin’s shirt into his fists and drilling him into the wall.
“What’s
going on?” The door to the room opened, A.J. popping his head inside.
“Get
her out of here A.J.,” Kevin roared as he and Nick stood nose to nose as Nick
battled to keep Kevin still. “If she stays here one more minute I can’t
guarantee what I’m going to do to her.”
Sizing the situation up A.J. grabbed a stunned Kristin by the arm
pulling her towards the door.
