Chapter

January 2000
The start of the
next Millennium. Christmas came and went by so fast. I didn't get much because
my parents said that I am not going to be around long enough to enjoy all the
stuff I got. My brother and sister got me more than they did and they made my
last Christmas a memorable one and also my New Years. When I was diagnosed my
goal was to hang on till my 18th birthday which is in November, but its a month
before they are expecting me to die and so my doubts for that are very high and
hopes are about at rock bottom. But as time goes that means my life will get
shorter and I know with every second that goes by my life is that much closer
to coming to an end.
"Hey Melissa! Dinner is ready!" I heard my sister Dawn yell from
downstairs.
"COMING!" I yelled down to my sister, I wasn't all that hungry but I
needed to eat to keep my strength up. I walked down the steps to the smell of
chicken! My favorite, with mash potatos, corn and rolls.
"Well look who finally decided to join us here." I hear my dad say.
"Sorry dad I was upstairs finishing my homework." I said sitting down
at the table and taking helpings of everything on there. After dinner it was my
turn to do the dishes and for Josh to put them away.
"How are ya feeling sis?" Josh asked while putting the last few
dishes away.
"Been better but not all that bad. It just sucks at the moment this is all
happening to me." I said drying off the last dish and then going upstairs.
I had a few things left of homework and I was hoping to be able to finish off
this school year and graduate before I get really sick. Thats another one of my
goals. Most of these goals I know won't be met. I stood up when I finished my
math homework and then a wave of dizziness hit me I stumbled outside of my door
before I blacked out.
Josh's View
I was in my room
doing my homework when I heard a loud thump on the floor. I thought it was Dawn
doing her flipping stuff whatever its called. Then I didn't hear it anymore. I
walked over to Dawn's room and she was sitting there listening to music and
doing her homework. As I walked out of her room the next sight freightened me
and startled me. Melissa was passed out cold on the floor and looked like she
was breathing hard and trying to catch her breath. I then yelled for my parents
and ran to my sister's side.
