Chapter 13

A Week Later
Melissa's View
"Knock knock," I heard a familiar voice say. I looked up from my
magazine and smiled.
"Nickerz! What are you doing here?" I asked.
"I told you we'd come and visit," he smiled. Brian came in the room
after him.
"Hey shorty," he said.
"Hey Bri! How's it goin'?" I asked.
"It's goin good. How about you?" he asked coming over to the bed and
giving me a hug and kiss.
"Good but I've been real tired lately," I said. Nick frowned and
kissed me on the forehead.
"Here, we brought you these," Nick said pulling out some roses behind
his back. Brian gave me a box of candy.
"Thanks! That was very nice of you guys," I smiled. They just smiled
at me and grabbed a couple chairs and pulled them up next to my bed.
"What's new?" Brian asked.
"Nothing really. The doctor said I can get out of the hospital in a day or
two. I just have to be careful around the house," I said.
"Really? That's great! So you're doing better?" Nick asked.
"I think so," I said.
"You need to come down to Florida and hang with us for a little
while," Brian said.
"You know I would but it's kind of getting...close to...you know," I
said softly. Brian and Nick both frowned.
"You don't know that for sure yet Mel," Nick said.
"Yeah but it sure feels like it's getting close," I said softly. I
looked at the both of them and saw them frowning deeply. They looked like they
were going to cry. I don't blame them, I was going to cry too.
"Just don't give up OK? You hang in there and things will be just
fine," Brian said.
"That's right, just keep your pretty head up," Nick said taking my
hand. I slightly smiled at him and then looked up when I heard Andrea move
slightly in her bed.
"Andrea? You awake?" I asked. I heard her mumble something and then
moveagain.
"You OK?" I asked. Nick and Brian both looked at me and then over at
her.
"What? Oh yeah, I'm fine, I just woke up," she yawned.
"Would you like to meet a couple of my friends?" I asked.
"Huh?" she yawned. She then opened her eyes all the way and looked
over at us. Her eyes then got wide.
"Oh my gosh!" she exclaimed.
"Hello, you must be Andrea," Brian smiled getting up and walking over
to her bed. "Mine name is Brian."
He extended his hand and she took it looking at him shocked.
"I'm Nick, it's nice to meet you Andrea," Nick said getting up as
well and walking over to her bed.
"H...Hi," she stuttered. Brian and Nick smiled and sat down in a
couple of chairs near her bed.
"How old are you?" Brian asked.
"12, I'll be 13 next month," she smiled.
"Is that so?" Nick asked. "We must give you an early birthday
present then."
"An...an early birthday present?" she gulped.
"Yup, would you like us to sing you happy birthday?" Brian asked.
Andrea's face then lit up.
"I'm going to take that as a yes," Brian chuckled. Nick and Brian
then cleared their throats and began to sing.
"Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Andrea,
happy birthday to you," Brian and Nick sang together. Andrea's face lit up
with delight and she clapped wildly.
"You guys sing so well," she smiled.
"Thank you," Nick said.
I watched as they talked with Andrea for about 20 more minutes. She soon grew
tired and fell asleep but before she did, both Brian and Nick gave her a hug
and a kiss and signed an autograph for her.
"Thanks for talking with her," I said.
"It was really no problem. I love talking to fans," Nick said. I
smiled at him and then said, "I think I'm going to take a nap. I'm kinda
tired."
"All right, we'll be back tomorrow OK? And if you want we'll take you home
when you're released," Brian said. I smiled and said, "Yeah that
would be great."
"OK cool, we'll catch you later. Rest up," Nick said and then kissed
my cheek. They waved good-bye and then left the room. I smiled and touched my
cheek still feeling the warmth of his lips still lingering on my skin. It's a
nice feeling, to like someone like I like Nick but it's even a nicer feeling to
have the guys as my friends and to know they actually do care about me. My life
has it's ups and downs and Nick and the rest of the guys are definitely one of
the ups.
