Chapter 20

By Cortney

Later That Day

Melissa's View

"Andrea are you coming?"  I asked seeing that she was falling behind us and her face was beat red.

"I am sooo hot and tired,"  She said short of breath.

"Are you feeling alright?"  Nick asked in a concern tone.

"I am just hot, is there any water rides?"  She asked as we got in line for another ride.  She looked like she was running a marathon in Africa.  Her face was beat red and she was all sweaty.

"I don't think there is.   We can take a break after this ride," Nick said just as Andrea's eyes rolled into the back of her head and she collapsed into Nick's arms.  I panicked.  I thought the diease had finally caught up with her.  Nick darted out of the line with me following close behind.

At The Hospital

Nick's View

"She's severely dehydrated and she needs to stay here for a few days.  Is there anyway of contacting her family?"  The doctor asked an hour or so after we got to the hospital.

"They are both from out of town, but we can get ahold of some one,"  Melissa said walking over to the pay phone.

"The cancer isn't winning her over?"  I asked seeing Melissa was occupied over with the phone.

"No actually we have some good news in that department.  It appears she has gone into remission and we cannot find any sign of the tumor.  We contacted her doctor and he sent over old records, but shes dehydrated from the heat most likely, but she should pull through this,"  He said with a reassuring
smile.  I watched Melissa make one final call and she slowly walked over to where I was.  She had a bit of a sunburn on her nose and face from being outside all day.

"Did you get ahold of some one?"  I asked as she sat down in a chair.

"Yeah her mom and dad are taking the next flight out to come.  What did the doctor say while I was on the phone?"

"Well they have good news, she's in remission,"  I said and Melissa jumped out of her chair and about knocked me over with a hug.

Melissa's View

"Oh my God!  Thats great!  When can we go back and see her?"  I asked estatic of the news.

"Melissa calm down now, they are moving her upstairs and the doctor said a nurse would be out to tell us when she is settled in her room,"  He said.  I felt a little light headed at that point, but I pushed it off not wanting Nick to worry about me to top all this off.

"Mr Carter?  They moved her upstairs, she can have visitors but only for 30 minutes," The nurse said walking into the waiting room.  I ran past her and Nick and found the nearest elevator.  I couldn't wait to tell Andrea and her family the great news about this!  Well even if the doctor told her already, I want to do it all over again.  But then the thought hit me about myself and how I probably won't get to see my next birthday or have children or anything.  The drowned my happy thoughts for a moment until the elevator
stopped at the floor Andrea was on.

Andrea's View

"Hello Andrea!  I am Kelley, I will be your nurse while you are here on this floor.  Can I get you anything?" The short stubby nurse asked me.

"Can you check to see where my friends are?"  I asked hearing how raspy my voice was.

"They are on their way up your doctor said,"  She said patting my leg and leaving the room.  I sghed and looked out the window seeing the sunny day turning cloudy.  Great!  Its going to rain probably.  I hate rain and storms.  I hope Nick and Melissa get here soon, because I hate being left alone in big rooms.  Sometimes feels like the walls are caving in on me.  You think I be use to it after being in and out of hospitals for the past 2 years, but you never get use to it.  But I looked outside again the sky was getting darker and darker, I hid under the covers hoping they would be here soon.
