The Lost Toy

As I flopped out on the recliner, I heard Tyk begin to whine and whimper.  I looked at him sniffing around and smiled.  The time had come.

“Brian!!” I shouted.  I heard fast pounding footsteps as Brian ran to the living room.  He burst through the doorway and stopped, out of breath.  “What, what??” he asked anxiously.

“You’ll never believe it, Bri, but Tyk lost his favorite toy: his rawhide chew!”

Brian’s eyes almost popped out of his skull.  He looked at Tyk, who was having a fit by now.  He howled and ran in desperate circles.  “Oh, no, he did?!”  Brian dropped on all fours and began crawling around, searching for it.  Tyk sniffed frantically at everything and slowly worked his way to the fireplace.  He barked and yapped and scratched at the glass.  The Chihuahua ran away, then head-on at the glass.  I scooped him in my arms before he suffered a concussion.  Stupid dog.

I opened the fireplace while Brian was stuffed under the couch, sneezing from all the dust.  I took out the rawhide and dusted off the cinders before giving it to Tyk.  I smirked, wondering if I should tell Bri what happened.  Nah.

“Hey, Brian, look!  Tyk found it in the toilet!”
