Chapter
2
Brian waited 20 minutes after Kevin went to bed before he slowly and
quietly got up from his bed. In his haste to leave the hotel before anyone woke
up and discovered he was gone, Brian's knee hit the night table that was
between the two beds that occupied the room. He let out a quiet groan as the
force of the hit knocked the telephone off of the table. Brian quickly dove to
the ground to catch the phone before it hit the ground and let out a sigh of
relief as he caught it and the only sound that was heard was the shrill dial
tone of the phone.
As he rose from the floor he cast a quick glance to the bed which was
occuppied by his young best friend to make sure he didn't wake him up.
Satisified that Nick looked like he was still asleep, Brian bent down and lifted
his shoes up from the floor. He then crept over to the table and grabbed his
wallet and put his room key inside and then pocketed the wallet. He then took
one last look at Nick and quietly slipped out the door then stopping down the
hall to put his shoes on.
When Nick heard the click as the outside door closed, he quickly got
out of the bed and got his own room key off of the table and pocketed it as he
carefully made his way outside. His curiousity finally got the best of him and
he wanted to find out where Brian was going this time of night. He looked down
the hall cautiously as he stepped out and sprinted for the stairway as he saw
Brian enter the elevator. He ran down the stairs and waited at the doorway
which led the the lobby and was across from the elevator. When he heard the
DING of the elevator, he cautiously lifted his head up and waited a few moments
before slowly opening the door and making his way to the lobby. He turned his
head just in time to see Brian walk out of the door and turn to the right. He
quietly ran to keep Brian in his site, but kept enough distance between them in
case Brian turned around and Nick could hide quickly. Brian finally stopped
walking when he reached a peaceful park in the middle of town. Nick followed
Brian to a bunch of trees that were planted near a beautiful water fountian
that was located in the middle of the park and stopped when he seen Brian stop
in front of the tree closest to the fountain and sat down. Nick also sat down a
few trees away but was careful to not let Brian see him but he made sure he
would be able to see Brian when he left. Both young men sat peacefully lost in
their thoughts as the constant but peaceful running sound of the water seemed
to wash away their troubles and take them to another world. They was brought
out of this world when they both heard the sound of screaming.
A little beyond the water fountain stood 3 young college students and 3
men who were holding them at gunpoint demanding money. Two of the young women
quickly gave their captors all the money they had even if it wasn't much but
the third young woman was too frozen in fear to respond and was shot. Her
friends screamed and were also shot by the men. Nick let out a scream as he
witnessed the murderer but quickly placed his hands over his mouth, hoping the
men didn't hear his scream. Brian also heard the scream and quickly and quietly
crawled behind the tree he was sitting in front of and kept crawling to a line
of bushes which were about 10 feet behind the trees; never turning to see who
the scream came from. In his haste he never did realize his wallet fall out of
his pocket but Nick did and without a second thought, he quickly crawled
towards his friends wallet. He knew he would have a lot of explaining to do
when he gave Brian his wallet, but he quickly decided getting yelled at would
be better than those murderers having all his info and credit cards. Brian let
out a sigh of relief as he reached the line of bushes and got up and ran as
quickly has he could back towards the hotel; back to the safe comfort of the
bed where he hoped he would wake up in the morning to discover this was all a
bad dream. He kept running without looking back and without realizing the
precious cargo he left behind.
