Chapter 4

I woke up with hopes on my bed and giggles. Slowly opening my eyes, I noticed two identical girls looking at me giggling.

“Good morning!” they chirped in unison and giggled again.

“Morning guys.” I mumbled and rolled over in my bed and straightened up.

“Girls, don’t disturb Skylar!” said Kristin coming in.

“Honey, how are you doin’?” she added hugging me.

“Fine. Is everybody here already?” If so, i had a big problem to get ready. I glanced the clock hanging on my wall, it was just 10 a.m.

“Nope sweetie, we and Brian’s are the first ones.” When she saw me hurrying to tidy up my room she needed to add. “Don’t worry, there are enough grown up women here to take care of foods and all. Enjoy yourself.” Then she grabbed twins’ hands, winked at me and went off.

In spite of her relieved words, i wasn’t convinced at all. It was in my soul to take responsibilities, that’s why I quickly got showered, picked something to wear and headed downstairs.

There they were, the part of my family. The ones i call family: Uncle Kevin, his wife Kristin, their twins Ashley and Natalie, their son Tim, Uncle Brian, his wife Leighanne, their daughter Andrea, sons Harry, Thomas and Mark. And of course my dad and Vanessa.

“Morning people!” I yelled cos they were all talking loudly. They all shut up for a minute, yelled “Morning!” and went back to their work.

“Morning dad!” I said and placed a kiss on his cheek. He was slicing an onion, a thing he hated to do. As I opened the fridge to take something to eat, he complained.

“I hate this.” He was sniffling by the way. “Why am i getting the most disgusting work always?”

“Step back you clumsy Carter!” Vanessa repremanded him half joking. She grabbed a knife and sliced onions then placed them in a frying pan. I glanced around, everybody was doing something, wives were at the kitchen and cooking everything we’re gonna eat,  Brian and Kevin were carrying the chairs outside and kids were helping them too. I had realized it was a big party. I sat on the white counter and started eating my breakfast, this time dad was there to tease me.

“So you consider this as a breakfast.” He said pointing my plate. I nodded, munching my apple. He looked down to plate again.

“Banana, apple, grapefruit and lemon for breakfast...Eugh!!” he grimaced.

“She doesn’t want a tummy like yours Carter.” Vanessa said not looking up from her cooking.

“I don’t have a tummy!”

“Yo Frack, you’ve been living with that tummy for two years now.” Uncle Brian stated.

“I know but it isn't that bad, is it?” he asked us hopefully.

“Nope dad, you’re still very hot.” That made everyone laugh.

“That doesn’t mean you have a good taste in food.” He said.

“Hey wassup baby doll?” said Tim sitting on counter next to me.

“Don’t talk with my daughter like that again.” Threatened my dad raising his head from his work, pointing him. Tim’s hands joined on his chest and he pouted:

“Aww Uncle Nicky, you broke my heart...your daughter is my best friend.” My dad just rolled his eyes, and went back to his work mumbling “whatever”. It was useless to argue with Tim cos he’d always come back with a comeback. And all members of this big family knew it.

Tim Richardson was 14 years old. With his green eyes and black hair, he was exactly like his dad, well..except for the eyebrows. Three years difference hadn’t detained me having a crush on him when we were younger. But now, he happened to be my best friend.

We chatted more as we kept on doing what our parents told us to do. And it was finally time to get ready for party.

“Hey Andrea, would you like to help me pick something to wear?” I asked. We had five years difference but she had great tastes in fashion.

“Okay.” She replied and we went up to my room.

“I think you should try this.” She suggested holding up a baby blue sphagetti strapped short dress.

“Nah, it’s just so elegant for a party.” I refused and continued thumbing through my clothes.

“No! We have a night too Sky! And i can’t see any reason not to look elegant, y’know?”

“Yeah you’re right.” I said and grabbed the dress.

“And from what i heard from my loving brothers, some of their friends will be here tonight.” She winked at me.

“That would be cool to ya, what can I do with 14 year olds?” I said.

“No sweetie, a friend of Harry is 17 years old and he’s coming too.”

“Well that’s good but i don’t feel like flirting...” I said and wore the dress.

“Duh! Sky, you’re livin’ a nun’s life these days!”

“I like it.” I said and went to bathroom to brush my hair. She followed me.

“Hey this dress showed your eyes. And we should twirl your hair also...it’ll look good on you.”

I nodded and she began enderavouring with my hair. Half an hour later, it was finally done.

“Take a look at yourself.”

I looked at my image in the mirror. I was satisfied. It was all curly now. Andrea had threw it in a loose bun and some strands were framing my pale face. Then i pulled my white platform sandals to my feet and put some make up on my face to give it color.

“Girls, everybody’s here, join us.” Said Leighanne poking her head from doorway.

“You look perfect.” She added after glancing me from head to toe and rushed off.

“See, my mom liked it, that means this guy will be knocked off.” She giggled. “I can’t wait to see others.”

“Don’t make boys the most important thing of your life.” I warned her. She was young to flirt with guys.

“I don’t! They’re a fun part of my life.” She giggled again and we went downstairs to greet our guests.
