Chapter 9

I opened my locker and threw my books inside. Pondering how many things had happened in a weekend, i felt a hand on my waist. Fearing it was Zackary, i slowly turned around to face him.

“Hey baby.” Said Chris and placed a soft kiss on my lips.

“Oh, hey.” I said relieved. He grabbed my waist and leaned over for another kiss.

“Chris...” I said and wiggled when i saw Zackary and his friends coming near us. Chris turned around and came face to face with Zac.

“Love birdies...” Zac said sarcastically. “Chris, have i ever told you that you’re an two-faced person? You first left the gang, then stole my girl.” He said defiantly.

“I’m not your girl anymore Zac.” I chimed in. Catching the words ‘left the gang’ was still ringing in my ears. If Chris was i,n his gang then how come i’ve never seen him? I’d spent so much time with his buddies that i all knew then close.

“Why don’t you get lost Zac, we had enough of you.” Chris retorted angrily, closed my locker, grabbed my hand and we walked off. I rescued my hand from his and stopped in the middle of the hall, causing the other students bump into me.

“We need to talk.” I demanded.

“We’ll talk later, we’re gonna be late for class. Please,  we’ll talk after school.” He begged.

“Do you know what it is about?”

“I can read it in your eyes.” He quickly kissed me and headed for his class.

After pondering thoughts about Chris and Zac all day, hearing the final bell of school made me happy. Quickly finding Chris, we hopped in my car and found a little café to sit and talk. Ordering two cokes, I finally got to ask questions running through my mind.

“Tell me what’s the deal between you and Zac’s gang?

“Nothing...Just I used to be a part of the gang...in fact Zac and me were best friends and leaders of the gang but...” he flinched. I realized he didn’t want to tell me more. No, i wouldn’t let this go.

“But what?”

“Then he saw you, he was like ‘man, she’s so cute.’, I agreed with him.  He tried everything to make you his and he succeed. He was my best friend so I had to keep my feelings locked inside.” He clasped his hands together.

“What you mean?” i asked uncomprehendingly.

“Skylar, I’ve been in love with you since i first saw you with Zac...i tried my best not to fall for you but i couldn’t help it. There was one thing i couldn’t dare to see: you with Zac. We were so close, that i knew every up and down of your relationship, he’d always told me.”

“That’s why Skylar, i left the gang, cos you were there within Zac’s arms, kissing him, whispering sweet words to his ear. I didn’t hang out with Zac when you were going to be with him, he always wanted to introduce us but i always came up with an excuse. You were too blind with Zac’s love. At last, he asked me if something was wrong and i told him that i want to quit the gang, he went mad and our ways got seperated.”

Tears started streaming down on my face. There was a man out there caring and loving me when i stuck to Zac blindly and suffered all those pain just cos of him. Chris was looking down, i quickly wiped the tears away.

“I was ready to leave my best friend then to cause you two break up. Cos you were so happy together, so i backed off.”

“I knew the right time will come some day and it came.” He reached and held my hand tightly.

“How did you know that i was going to feel the same?”

“I had promised myself to tell you how i felt when you broke up with Zac, no matter what your feelings would be toward to me.”

“How come are you friends with Littrell brothers? They hate Zac and his gang.”

“Science project.” He said grining. “When they heard we were going to be in the same group, they were like ‘Can we use him as out cavy for the experiment?’” he told laughing. This was what i’d expect from my Littrell brothers. We were at the same high school but we were finding a very little time to speak.

I was so lucky that i had a boyfriend like him! He was incredible. So little time had brought us closer than it was supposed to be but none of us were complaining. It felt very good to be in his arms. We spent that night together in my house. I introduced him to my dad and Vanessa and they seemed to like him. When we left alone, we talked more about ourselves after many indecisions i decided to tell him about my mother. He listened carefully and assured me that he would do anything to help me find her. Have I told you that I was so lucky having him?
