Show Me the Meaning of Being
Lonely
I wrote this poem based on the
“Show Me the Meaning” video.
A siren pierces the dark, rainy
night
The lights of the ambulance are
flashing bright
In a hospital room, a young man
does lie
But his soul’s in the hall,
watching his body die
On a city bus sits another young
man
He mourns for his lover, his head
in his hands
With a flicker of hope, he
imagines her near
But that hope goes away when she
disappears
Suddenly, the monitor shows a flat
line
The doctors rush in to save him in
time
But they cannot revive him, try as
they might
And his spirit walks peacefully
into the light
A man watches a video, quite
overcome
For he’s watching his father play
ball with his son
He used to be happy when his
father was alive
But pain replaced that happiness
when his father died
A man walks alone in the pouring
down rain
Thinking of the girl that caused
him such pain
He tries to talk, but she keeps
them apart
Why won’t she let him into her
heart?
A man drinks coffee in a café
Remembering his sister, who passed
away
He suddenly sees her running
through there
But when he tries to touch her,
she turns to air
Awhile later, those five men meet
And walk together down the street
Their pain and loneliness should
disappear yet
As they walk side by side into the
sunset
