Part
III: The Final Terror
Chapter 31
One month
later
“Hello,
Bluegrass Inn. This is Jaycee
speaking. May I help you?”
“Yes. My name is Samantha Peter, and I’d like to
look into renting some kind of party room for a baby shower I’m holding for one
of my friends,” Sammy explained to the woman on the phone.
“Oh,
certainly!” Jaycee exclaimed. “We have
just the room. What date would you like
to reserve it for?”
“I’d
like to have it Sunday, January 25th,” Sammy said. “All the guests from out of town will be in
town then. We’re planning to get
together for something else later that week too.”
“Oh,
that’s nice,” Jaycee said. “Well, that
date’s free, so consider yourself booked.”
“Okay,
great,” Sammy said. “Thank you so much.”
“You’re
welcome,” Jaycee said. “Could I get your
name again?”
“Yes,
it’s Samantha Peter,” Sammy replied.
“And
what is your friend’s name?” Jaycee asked.
”Julie Benton,” Sammy answered.
“Could
I get your phone number please?”
”Sure,” Sammy replied and gave the woman her phone number.
“Wow,
that’s a long distance number,” Jaycee remarked. “Where are you from?”
“Orlando,
Florida,” Sammy replied. “But Julie
lives in Lexington, so that’s why we’re having the shower there.”
“Ah,
I see,” Jaycee replied. “Do you have an
idea as to how many guests will be coming?
We like to be prepared for certain numbers of people.”
“Um…
it’ll be a pretty small party. Only
about twenty people at most,” Sammy said.
“Okay,”
Jaycee said. “Thank you.”
“Thank
you,” Sammy said. “Goodbye.”
“Bye
now,” Jaycee replied, and hung up. She
snickered to herself and pulled her address book out of a drawer. She flipped through it to one name. She punched in the person’s number and
waited. After a few rings, someone
picked up.
“Yo,
dis be J-Dawg,” answered a man.
“Justin,
mark your planner for the week of January 25th. You’ll be in Lexington Kentucky…”
