Chapter

A week later, Dr. Benson sauntered into Brian's room with a wide smile
on his face.
"I have good news, Brian," he said. "You're in
remission."
"Really?" Brian said happily. "That's great. Can I go
home then?"
"You sure can. You can leave this afternoon."
"Yes!" Brian shouted. "Thanks Doc."
"You're welcome," the doctor said as he left the room.
When Leighanne and the guys arrived, Brian told them the news. They
were all ecstatic. They couldn't stop hugging him.
That afternoon, Brian checked himself out of the hospital. Dr. Benson
made sure he scheduled a doctor's appointment in three months. Then he was out
of there. Leighanne drove him home to their house in Orlando. Brian was
thrilled to be home. He was still quite weak, so he took a nap in his waterbed
once he got home. He fell asleep right away. It felt so good to be sleeping in
his own bed and not the stiff hospital bed.
The next morning, he woke up to a wonderful aroma. He wandered into the
kitchen to see Leighanne making breakfast. He walked up behind her and wrapped
his arms around her tightly.
"Hi sweetie," she said, turning to kiss him. "How are
you this morning?"
"I'm great," he said with a grin. "What's for breakfast?
It smells delicious."
"Belgian waffles," Leighanne replied.
"Ooohhh, put extra whipped cream on mine," Brian declared
happily.
"Boy, someone's sure feeling better," she remarked, wiping a
dollop of whipped cream on the tip of his nose. He grinned as she kissed it
off.
"I love you, Leigh," he said.
"I love you too, Bri," Leighanne replied. Then they sat down
and ate breakfast together.
Later that day, Brian went over to Nick's house to play basketball. He
discovered how weak he had become. He was exhausted after only twenty minutes
of playing. And Nick beat him, even though he had been going easy on him.
Usually, Brian always won. But it still felt good to be playing after spending
nearly a month and a half cooped up in the hospital.
