Chapter

When Kevin and
Howie had finished visiting AJ, they headed down the hall to Angel's room. The
door was halfway closed. Kevin looked in and saw that the rest of the Carter
family was in with Angel. He and Howie continued on down the hall and stopped
when they reached the door to Brian's room.
"Come on,
Kev," Howie said. "Let's get this over with." Kevin nodded and
they walked in together. Brian was flipping through channels on the TV.
"Hey
Brian," Howie said, smiling at him. Brian smiled back.
"Hey
D," Brian said. "What's up?" Howie and Kevin exchanged glances.
They knew that Brian had not yet been informed of Nick's condition. Kevin was
the one who broke it to him.
"We've
got some bad news, Bri," he said sadly. Worry filled Brian's blue eyes.
"What?"
he asked.
"It's
about Nick. His doctor says he's not getting any better and asked the Carters
to consider taking him off the life-support machines." Brian gasped and
just sat there in shock for a moment. Then the tears came. He began to cry, not
even trying to hide his tears. Kevin immediately came over and put his arms
around his cousin.
"Don't
let them do that!" Brian sobbed. "He can pull through this! I know he
can! Don't let them let him die!"
Kevin said
nothing, just held onto Brian and let him cry on his shoulder. Howie came and
sat on the other side of the bed and put his hand on Brian's back. He felt his
tears begin to build up again as he watched his friend cry. He wished he could
do something, but he knew there was nothing. It was all up to Nick now.
