Chapter

Two days
later, Brian went down to see Nick around 10:00. He had gotten used to sitting
the in the wheelchair, so he was able to sit in Nick's room for longer periods
of time.
Now, he sat,
holding Nick's hand and watching him sleep. Suddenly, Nick's hand moved in his.
His eyes grew wide with excitement as Nick's eyes fluttered open.
"Nick?"
Brian asked softly. Nick weakly turned his head towards Brian. He couldn't talk
because of the respirator he was attached to. "Nick, you're awake!"
Brian cried joyfully. Nick just stared at him confused. "Do you know where
you are?" Brian asked. Nick glanced around the room and slowly shook his head
no. "You're in a hospital," Brian told him. "We were in an
accident. Our bus crashed. You've been in a coma for about a month."
Nick's eyes
widened in disbelief. Brian was relieved, for it seemed like Nick understood
what he was telling him. "Everyone will be so happy to have you
back," Brian said, suddenly filled with emotion. He wanted to hug Nick,
but decided not to because of all of the equipment Nick was hooked up to.
"Do you
want me to go get your parents now?" Brian asked. Nick nodded slightly.
"Okay," Brian said. "They're just down the hall. I'll go get
them now. I'll see you later, okay?" Nick nodded again. It was hard for
him to smile because of the respirator, but Brian could tell by the look in his
eyes that he was glad to see Brian again.
