Chapter

"So, when does the tour start up again?" Alexa asked, later
that night. She and Brian had been to the mall for a few hours, and now were
sitting in a little coffee shop, drinking cappuccinos.
"Next Tuesday," he replied, frowning.
"What's the matter? I thought you liked touring?" she asked,
seeing his expression.
"I do. But I don't want to leave you," he said. She smiled.
"That's sweet of you, honey, but it's only for about a month and a
half. I'll be okay."
"I'll miss you like crazy."
"I'll miss you too," she said. "I wish I didn't have to
go to college."
"Don't you like it?" he asked.
"Yeah, but I'd much rather just tour with you," she said,
sticking out her lower lip in a pout. He grinned when he saw her expression.
"I wish you could come with me too, baby. I love you so
much." Alexa smiled slightly. Brian reached for her hand. "I've got
something I want to give you," he said, pulling out a small black velvet
box. He handed it to her. She flipped it open, and her eyes widened. Inside was
a beautiful silver ring. It had a pattern of amethysts and sapphires (their
birthstones) cut into tiny hearts going all the way around the outside of it.
"Brian, what's this for?" she asked, her eyes wide.
"It's a promise ring," he said. "It's a promise from me
to you that I will always love you, and that I will think of you always while
I'm on tour."
"It's beautiful," she breathed. "It must have cost a
fortune!"
"It's worth it for you," he said, pleased that she liked it.
"Look on the inside." She looked, and smiled as she read the
engraving on the inside of the ring. I love you always.
"Oh, I love you too, Brian," she said, her voice trembling
with emotion. She got up from her seat, went around to his side of the table,
and hugged him tightly. "This is the most beautiful thing I've ever
seen." He hugged her back.
"It's true, Alexa," he said. "I love you, always and
forever."
