Chapter 7

By Julie

It was almost eight one evening, when Charisma was sitting at her desk in her room, working on her homework.   The TV was on softly in the background, tuned to MTV, but she wasn’t paying attention to it.   That is, until she heard the words, “A Backstreet Boy announces medical problem.   Stay tuned.”

Charisma whirled around in her chair to face the TV, her mouth dropping open.   She waited anxiously as two more commercials aired.   Then, finally, an MTV News Brief came on.

“This is Kurt Loder with an MTV News Brief.   At a Backstreet Boys press conference earlier today, member Brian Littrell had some sobering news.   He is scheduled for open heart surgery later this year to correct a congenital heart defect.   Here’s more.”

The screen changed to show a clip from the press conference.   Charisma watched, part in awe, part in horror, as her dream literally replayed.

About a few month sago,  I discovered the hole in my heart had grown larger instead of shrunken," Brian announced on the TV screen.

"Is it serious?" a reporter asked.

"It would become serious if I didn’t have a surgery scheduled," Brian said.

"A surgery?" another reported echoed.

"Yes, I had to schedule a surgery, which will be during the tour," Brian said.

The screen flashed back to Kurt Loder’s face.   “Littrell and the Backstreet management are not releasing the location of Littrell’s surgery, which will take place later this spring.   In other news…”

Charisma did not hear any more that was said on the TV.   She stared at it, almost as if she were looking through it, not focusing on it.   Her body was trembling slightly.   She had been dreaming about these five men for over five years, and yet, it had never seemed more real to her.   This same thing had happened in her dream; she had predicted it, right down to their exact words.

Charisma shook her head slowly.   “This is way too freaky.”
