Chapter 10

 

“I spy with my little eye,” Nick began and looked around.  The rest of the guys all groaned in unison.

 

“Nick!  There’s nothing new to spy!” Brian said.  Nick ignored Brian though, and continued to look for something.

 

“Something, green.”

 

“The ocean?” AJ guessed.  Nick shook his head smugly.  That just stumped everyone.

 

“All right Nick, we give up,” Howie said.

 

“It’s Kevin’s eyes,” Nick stated.  All the guys looked surprised that Nick had found something else they hadn’t already guessed.  They looked at Kevin, whose eyes weren’t surprised, but glassy instead.

 

“Hey, you okay Kev?” Brian asked sounding concerned.  Kevin only nodded vacantly, and before any more questions could be asked his head fell backwards limply.

 

“Kevin!” Nick shouted and leaped up.

 

“No, Nick!” AJ said trying to stop him from accidentally flipping the raft over, but it was too late.

 

In one moment of chaos soon everyone was in the water, sputtering and coughing.  They had all been so weakened from the lack of food and water that they couldn’t swim.

 

Nick finally was able to flip the raft back over and help the others back in.  When he automatically reached over to help the last person, there was no one.

 

“Where’s Kevin?” he said weakly.  The other guys struggled to look around, but Kevin wasn’t there.  Nick knew he had to find Kevin, even though he was about to pass out himself.

 

As the rest of the guys watched Nick go under the water on a search for their other brother, they could only pray that both of them would be coming back up.
