Chapter 7

A gentle lapping sound was the first thing Nick heard when he awoke the next morning.  He peeked one eye opened and looked around.  All the other guys were still asleep, so he sat up and stretched.

The sun reflected off the water causing him to squint and shield the blinding light with his hand.  His throat dry and cracked from all the salt water he swallowed when the boat sunk.

He looked around at his surroundings.  Water.  From his small little spot on the raft in the immense ocean, all he could see was water.

“Just great,” he croaked.

“You can’t sing with a voice like that,” another croaky voice said behind him.  Nick turned around to see Brian’s blue eyes twinkling with laughter.

“Oh be quiet, B, we’re in trouble,” he said seriously.  Brian’s face fell and he looked at Nick.

“What kind of trouble?” he whispered.  Nick looked up from picking at the loose threads on his pants.

“B, if we don’t get saved, or at least find fresh water, within three days… we’re goners,” he said sadly.  Brian’s face paled a few shades lighter then his usual shade.

“But that won’t happen,” another voice spoke up.  “As long as we’re together, we can do anything.”  Brian and Nick to see the Kevin, along with Howie and AJ, looking at them.

“Kevin, what kind of crap is that?  We can’t do anything!” Nick exclaimed.  “We’re stuck on this stupid raft, out in the middle of the fucking ocean!  What are we going to do?!”

A thoughtful silence fell over the five men.  It could be up to them, but really it was up to nature… to decide their fates.  Unless a miracle happened, they would all die.
