Chapter

The audience clapped wildly, as JADE finished up “Why Don’t
You See”. Normally, their show would
have been done at that point, but this night was different.
Ashalyn waited for the cheers to die down and then said
into her mic, “We’ve got one last song prepared for you. It’s a new song that I just recently wrote,
so it’s not on our album, but hopefully it’ll make it onto the next one. Anyway, it’s called ‘Angel’, and it’s
dedicated to my boyfriend, Brian.” She
smiled and nodded to the band behind them, who started playing the ballad that
she had written only weeks earlier, as the four girls took seats on stools
behind them.
Elyssa took a deep breath and started singing the first
verse. Her voice sounded weaker and more
wavery than usual, but still, it was beautiful.
There is no golden halo,
Floating over your hair.
And a long, white robe,
Is never what you wear.
Serena sang next.
You may not fit the stereotype,
But I know the truth.
There’s an angel on this Earth,
And that angel is you.
Then they all began the chorus.
You’re an angel,
Watching over me.
And when I close my eyes,
Your face is what I see.
You’re my angel,
And I know we’ll never part.
I’ll never be alone,
Because you’re always in my heart.
Tears in her eyes, Ashalyn started the next verse.
You don’t have to stroke a golden harp,
To make a beautiful noise.
The most beautiful thing I’ve ever heard,
Is your angelic voice.
Jenna took
the next part.
It brings me so much joy,
Whenever I hear you sing.
Because it makes me realize,
You’re an angel without wings.
They repeated the chorus again, and then Ashalyn sang the
bridge.
You’ll always be there to guide me,
Through the worst times, I know.
Because your light is always shining,
And I’ll just follow your glow.

Finally, they all repeated the chorus several more times
and brought the song to a close. As the
last chord lingered in the air, the audience was silent for a moment before
breaking into wild applause.
The four girls stood, grasped hands, and bowed, before
hurrying off stage.

As Ashalyn entered the backstage area, she found Brian
standing there, waiting for her. She saw
tears shimmering in his blue eyes.
“Ashalyn…” he whispered.
“That was so beautiful.” He
smiled and held his arms open.
Ashalyn broke into a grin and threw her arms around him,
hugging him tightly. “I love you,
Brian,” she whispered into his ear.
“I… I love you too, Ash,” he whispered back, holding her
tightly. It had finally happened. He had fallen in love again, with
Ashalyn. And she had fallen for him.
Brian dipped his mouth towards hers and kissed her lovingly
on the lips. But suddenly, their kiss
was broken by Serena’s shrill cry.
“Ash, Elyssa collapsed!”
