Chapter 15

By Rachel

Kevin drove the blue Taurus up the driveway and put it in park right in front of the house. He pinched the bridge of his nose and stiffled back a yawn that threatened to escape him; the hours he had gone without sleep was finally getting to him.

After he arrived back at the hospital with AJ and Brian, he went into Nick's ICU room and poured out his heart to Nick and asked for his forgiveness, hoping that there was truth to the statement that people in comas can hear everything that is said to them. Kevin stayed with Nick a few more minutes then quietly left the room and went to the waiting room. He entered the room expecting to see all three of his friends, but he only seen Brian in one of the waiting room chairs curled up in a fetal position and asleep. Kevin quietly crept over to where Brian was and sat down reaching for a magazine. When he sat down, he looked over towards Brian and seen his cousin's blue eyes open. He smiled and asked where Howie and AJ were and received the response that they went home to get some sleep and they would be back at 7 in the morning and they will also bring the other rental car. Kevin nodded and looked around the room for a clock since he had left his watch in his room and sighed when he seen it was only 2 in the morning "Just 5 more hours" he thought to himself as he leafed through the magazine in his hand.

The next morning Howie and AJ arrived at the hospital at 20 minutes after 7and had to wake both Kevin and Brian up so they could go home and sleep while Howie and AJ stayed at the hospital. Kevin gratefully accepted the invitation to go home but Brian left reluctantly after being promised that if anything happened that he would be called right away.

Kevin shook his head and cleared out the memories of what had happened in the past few hours and looked over towards his cousin to again find him asleep. Kevin got out of the car and unlocked the front door of the house. He then walked to the front passengers side door and opened it up and unbuckled Brian's seatbelt and lifted Brian into his arms, not having the heart to wake his cousin up, knowing that exhaustion was also getting to him but affecting him in a worse way. Kevin quietly shut the car door with his foot and carried Brian to the couch in the living room and gently covered him up with a blanket that was lying on the arm of the chair across the room. Kevin sat down in the chair across the room and after a few moments, he quickly dozed off.

"Kevin, Kev! Wake up!" Kevin heard the voice of his cousin call out. The fear that was evident in Brian's voice caused Kevin's eyes to open quickly as he got up from the chair and walked over towards his cousin. When his eyes finally adjusted he gasped in shock, standing right in front of his frightened cousin was the ghost that Kevin had seen earlier and it was evident to him that the ghost was holding his hand out to Brian. Kevin slipped around the ghost and quickly sat down by Brian's side, pulling the trembling younger man in his arms, trying to comfort him. "What do you want from us?" demanded Kevin as Brian whimpered in his arms. In response, the ghost held out his hand and Kevin seen a photograph of the man who was in front of him with a little girl by his side. He looked at the picture a few more seconds and looked down at Brian when he finally stopped trembling as violently as before and when he looked up the ghost was gone. He then looked back down at Brian "You think that maybe we can go to the public library and see if there is any information on this house that may help us?" Brian asked in a strained voice. Kevin nodded in agreement "Yeah let's go do that. Do you feel up to it?" Brian nodded and they both got up from the couch again making their way to the Taurus outside.
