"Come
on Bri. We are almost there," coaxed AJ as he helped Brian walk towards
the entrance to the building that had huge, red blocked letters on the side
that read "EMERGENCY ROOM". He stopped suddenly as he felt Brian go
limp in his arms and gently sat Brian down on the ground and kneeled down in
front of a obviously in shock Brian who was shaking and had unshed tears in his
eyes.
"You
ok Rok?" he asked gently as he pulled Brian's hand away from the side of
his head to see if the bleeding had slowed down; it hadn't. After waiting a few
seconds and receiving no response, AJ pulled himself up to the standing
position and offered his hand to Brian to help him up. Brian stared blankly at
AJ's hand and AJ let out a frustrated and walked behind Brian, lifting him
gently to his feet. Once he was satisfied Brian could somewhat stand and not
fall, AJ began to support Brian as they slowly made their way to the Emergency
Room entrance.
Finally
after about 10 minutes they made it to the doors leading to the ER and AJ
silently congratulated himself as helped Brian walk through the door. He
quickly surveyed the ER and seen a young nurse sitting behind the desk working
on the computer not paying attention to anything going on in the almost empty
room.
"Excuse
me, Miss?" said AJ politely as he groaned from the strain of holding Brian
up as he started to go limp in his arms yet again. "MISS?" yelled AJ
in frustration, finally getting the young woman's attention.
"Oh
my" the nurse gasped as she seen the shaking young man in AJ's arms. I
will be back in one second I need to get a wheelchair and take him to an
examining room then you can tell me what happened." Explained the nurse as
she took a key out of her pocket and opened a door that was behind the desk
area.
A
few seconds later she came out with a wheelchair and stopped at the phone to
call for a doctor then she finally wheeled it directly to where AJ and Brian
were. AJ lifted Brian up and placed him the chair and took hold of the hand
grips on the chair and wheeled Brian to the room where the nurse was standing
in front of. As the pushed the wheelchair into the small examination room, a
silver haired man in a white lab coat entered the room.
"Nell,
can you please find out what happened while I examine this young man?"
asked the doctor.
"Of
course Dr. McRubbin." The nurse replied. She then turned to AJ and said
"Please follow me sir, you aren't allowed in this room while the doctor
examines your friend and I need to ask you about what happened.
AJ
nodded and sighed in defeat as he took one last look at Brian and followed Nell
out of the room.
"My
name is Nell as you heard back there." Said the young nurse jokingly as
she led AJ to a empty couch in the waiting room but not before grabbing a
clipboard and pen off of the desk.
"My
name is AJ" stated AJ emotionlessly "And my friend in there, his name
is Brian."
Nell
nodded as she wrote down the information and looked up at AJ once she was done.
"And what happened to cause Brian to be injured?" she asked.
AJ
took in a deep breath and relived the experience that had literally shaken him
to the core, when he thought Brian was going to be hit by the vehicle.
Nell
finished writing down the information as AJ told it to her and once he was done
speaking, Nell rose to her feet and spoke "Thank you AJ. Once Dr. McRubbin
is finished examining your friend, you will be allowed in to visit him. I need
to go take this information to him now, so if you will please excuse me."
AJ
nodded and as soon as Nell entered the room Brian was in, he got up from his
seat and ran for the stairway not looking back.
