Chapter

Nick
sat up in his bed shivering from the sweat running down his back and from the
tears streaming down his face. He just couldn't get the horrible dream he just
had out of his mind. He pulled the curtain away from the window by his bed and
noticed it was early the next morning. He was shocked and slightly relieved
that he actually slept through most of the night without incident. He laid back
down on his bed and stared at the ceiling hoping the images from the dream
would leave his mind forever.
A
few minutes later he heard a light knocking at the door and looked towards the
sound. The door quietly opened and Brian stuck his head inside the room
obviously relieved to see Nick awake. He entered the room and quietly shut the
door and made his way over towards the bed. As Brian came closer to the bed
Nick immediately noticed Brian's worried expression.
"What's
wrong Bri?" asked Nick as he scooted over in the bed to make room for
Brian to sit down.
"Um
hopefully you can help solve my problem. I was going to take my heart meds just
now and they were missing, have you by any chance seen them?" Brian asked
as he looked around the room. Nick's eyes widened and he prayed this wasn't
another trick that was being played on him by the ghost. "Nick?"
asked Brian when his friend didn't answer.
"No
I haven't seen them Bri." replied Nick "Did you ask the other
guys?" he asked.
Brian
nodded his head and said "Yeah I asked Kev and Howie but AJ just got up
and I haven't had a chance to ask him yet. I'm going to go ask AJ if he has
seen them and go for a swim, you wanna come?"
"You
sure you wanna go swimming Bri?" asked Nick
"Yeah
why wouldn't I want to Nick?" chuckled Brian
"Um
no reason Bri. Just wondering" Nick said as he stared at the floor.
"Ok,
well bye Nick I'm going downstairs now." said Brian as he got up from the
bed and walked to the door.
Nick
sighed as he watched Brian open the door and walk out of the room. He hoped and
prayed with all his might that the images in his dream were just that, images,
that he hoped wouldn't come true.

Fifteen
minutes later Nick got up from bed and got dressed and brushed his teeth and
hair. With a sigh he opened the door to his room and walked down the hall
towards the stairs and made his way downstairs. He hesitantly walked through
the living room to the kitchen and saw Kevin at the kitchen table reading a
newspaper and drinking coffee.
"Hi
Kev" he said as he sat down at the table and stared at his hands that were
in his lap forcing his tears of worry to stay back.
"Hey
Nick" replied Kevin. Nick could hear the rustling sound of Kevin folding
the paper and lowered his eyes to the floor. "What's wrong Nick?"
Kevin asked sympathetically.
Nick
felt his breath catch in his throat "Kev is actually not yelling at me?
Wow!" thought Nick "Nothing" he replied "Have you guys
found Bri's heart meds yet and where are AJ and Howie?" asked Nick as he
tried to disguise the trembling in his voice.
"No
we haven't found them yet and AJ and Howie are out in that field behind the
house looking around they should be back in about 15 minutes." replied
Kevin.
Nothing
was said for a few minutes until Nick looked up at Kevin with his eyes shiny
with unshed tears.
"Kevin
I had this dream last night can I tell you about it?" asked Nick, hoping
Kevin would say yes so he could tell someone about it and hoping that if he
told someone the dream wouldn't be as scary. He watched as Kevin nodded and
began to tell him about the dream
"Well
I dreamed that Brian was swimming and he passed out and he drowned." Nick
said as he sniffled.
"Nick
it is just a dream" said Kevin "Dreams shouldn't bother you that much
kiddo. Well I'm going to go take a swim with Brian, if AJ and Howie come back
tell them where we are ok?" he finished saying as he got up from the table
and walked outside, already in his swim trunks.
Kevin
walked through the front door of the house and breathed in the fresh morning
air. With a sigh he ran around the side of the house towards the pool.
When
he approached the pool he didn't hear any splashing noises and ran quicker
towards the pool. When he reached the pool he at first didn't see anything but
rescanned the pool as he slipped off his shoes. He seen something floating in
the water and screamed, immediately running towards the deep end of the pool at
full speed and jumping in. He reached the floating object and quickly picked it
up and placed it on the edge of the pool and pulled himself out of the water.
"Bri
come on wake up" said Kevin as he put his fingers to the side of Brian's
neck and sighed in relief as he felt a pulse.
He
pulled Brian up into his arms and started hitting him on the back and seconds
later Brian began coughing up the water and once Kevin was sure most of the
water was out of his lungs, he laid Brian back down and got up from the ground
and picked Brian up and carried him inside the house. He kicked the front door
until Nick came and unlocked it, allowing Kevin in.
Kevin
watched as Nick's eyes widened and he began to tremble. Kevin placed Brian on
the couch and smiled slightly when Brian's eyes opened. "Where is your
cell phone Nick?" asked Kevin "I need to call Howie and AJ on their
cell phones, we need to take Bri to the hospital for observation and both mine
and Bri's cell phones are still packed."
"In
my room in the bookbag." replied Nick as he watched Kevin sprint upstairs.
Nick walked over to the recliner at the other side of the room and picked up
the light blanket that was lying on the chair arm and laid the blanket over
Brian's trembling body "It will be ok Bri. You are ok now" soothed
Nick as he grabbed his best friend's hand and gave it a squeeze.
Seconds
later Nick heard Kevin stomping down the stairs and he suddenly got pushed
against the wall. "Is this your idea of a joke Nickolas?" hissed
Kevin as he held Nick against the wall
"What
do you mean?" stuttered Nick
"I
found Brian's heart meds in your room Nick. Do you realize that something could
go horribly wrong with him if he doesn't take his meds? He has been your best
friend all these years and this is how you repay him by trying to kill him!?
The sight of you makes me sick Nick." screamed Kevin as he pushed Nick
roughly against the wall one last time.
Nick
let out a breath he didn't realize he was holding when Howie and AJ ran through
the door breathless. Their eyes widened at the sight of Kevin holding Nick
against the wall as tears streamed down Nick's pale face. Kevin roughly let go
of Nick and ran to the kitchen to get the keys the to the Taurus.
"Come
on guys let's go" he mumbled as he gently picked up Brian and walked
towards the door. The shock wore off enough for Nick to start walking towards
the door but was stopped when Kevin stood in front of him
"Where
do you think you are going Nick? Don't you think you have caused enough trouble
for today? Just stay here ok? I don't want to see you unless I have to."
said Kevin as he slammed the door shut by using his foot.
Nick
stood at the doorway with tears streaming at a faster pace down his face. When
he seen the light blue Taurus start going down the windy road, Nick let out a
loud sob and ran for his room, not stopping until he got to the bed.
"Why
me?" he thought as he flung himself on the bed and cried heart wrenchingly
loud sobs. He laid on the bed for several minutes but stopped sobbing suddenly
when he felt the familiar drop in temperature that was happening within the
room and he rolled over onto his back. His eyes then opened wide in terror and
wished that someone was there with him in the house. He was also silently
wishing the ghost would just leave him and his friends alone, forever.
