Chapter 6

Finally, it was almost time for the baby to be born. It's due date was July 22. Luckily for Brian, who was on his American tour with the BSB, all the tours that week were in Florida, where he and Alexa lived. That was good, because if she went into labor, he could be there quickly. If the tours had been farther away, he wouldn't have gone. He would have worried too much.

That night, their concert was in Tampa, not too far away from Orlando. Brian had to leave at 10:00 in the morning. It took about two hours to get there, then they had to eat lunch, and then they had to get ready for the concert, which included set-up, hair, make-up, getting dressed, warm-ups, sound-checks, etc. The concert was at 7:00 that night.

The concert started right on time. They opened up with "Larger Than Life". The crowd was huge. The fans all screamed wildly, waving large signs, and singing all the lyrics.

Right in the middle of the show, as the Backstreet Boys were finishing "The One," Brian noticed one of his managers, Donna Wright, motioning for him. Her eyes were full of excitement, and he knew that Alexa must have called just then. When the song ended, he ran off the stage.

"The baby," he cried when he got backstage, "is it born yet?"

"Not yet," Donna assured him, "but Alexa has gone into labor. She just called from the hospital."

"Is she okay," Brian asked, out of breath.

"Don't worry, Brian, she's fine."

"How will I get to the hospital?" he asked, remembering he had come in the van with the other guys.

"Take my car," Donna said, handing him her keys. "Jay will go with you." She motioned to one of the bodyguards.

"Thanks, Donna," he said giving her a hug. "I hope I'm not causing too much trouble."

"Don't worry. We'll explain it to the fans. I'm sure they'll understand," she said.

"Thanks a lot, Donna," Brian replied, grabbing his belongings quickly. He ran out the door, with Jay right behind him. Brian decided to let Jay drive, since he was so nervous his hands were trembling. He fidgeted and chewed on his nails all the way to Orlando. Once they were back in town, Jay drove him straight to the hospital where Alexa was.

"Thanks, " said Brian as he climbed out of the car. Jay followed him into the hospital. Brian went to the front desk as soon as he got inside the building.

"Excuse me, ma'am," he said to the receptionist, "my wife is here having a baby, and I need to know what room she's in."

"All right, can you tell me her name please," the woman replied.

"Yeah, it's Alexa Littrell."

The receptionist typed her name into the computer. A moment later, she turned back to him.

"She's in room 418."

"Okay thanks." Brian darted to the nearest elevator and punched in the button for the 4th floor. When the elevator reached the top, he hurried out. He found himself in the maternity ward. He hurried down the hall, looking for room 418. Finally, he found it. Jay went over to a waiting room just down the hall. Brian knocked quickly, then paused.

"Come in," he heard his wife call from inside. Brian went in. Alexa lay in bed. "Hi, sweetheart," she said. He hurried over and kissed the top of her head.

"How are you, hun? Is the baby..."

"The baby's on it's way, and everything is fine so far," she interrupted him.

"Are you in any pain?" he asked.

"Not right now," she said. "I'm just fine."

A few minutes later, she gasped and grimaced in pain.

"Lexie, honey, what's wrong?" Brian cried, hovering over her.

"Don't worry, it's just another contraction," she said, squeezing her eyes shut. Brian grabbed her hand and held it tightly in his until the contraction passed. Then he ran his fingers tenderly through her hair.
