Chapter 2

Pamela had been in and out of the U.S. for the past seventeen years. Now Amber was in her late teens and demanded explanations about her father. Pamela knew that sooner or later she had to face this; she just didn’t know how to start. Seventeen years of torment and remorse from her one big mistake. Two years after Amber was born she finally contacted her family in Dallas and told them everything. Her father was the one that took it the worst; he was a true born Mexican with Christian morals and did not believe in having kids out of wedlock. That was a sin, a big one that he just did not accept. Pamela knew that some how the news about her having a child with out being married made his heart condition worsen. And knowing that she couldn’t be there to tell him how sorry she was; was her burden for what she had done. He did not want to speak to her not even on his deathbed. Now her conscience killed her for not being able to say goodbye to her father. This was the worst of the stuff that had occurred to her in past years.

Her, mother in other hand, took it slowly and accepted her and her granddaughter. Her Sister Gracie didn’t even need an explanation she welcomed her back with open arms as well as Amber. Pamela also found out about Victor and his new family, he had married a year after she had left. According to Gracie, Victor was a father of twin boys. Now he had his own News paper out and about the whole City and its surrounding towns.  He had also converted to his wife’s religion, he was Jewish now. Somehow Pamela felt relieved to know he had found a new love, yet she felt a little jealous. It could’ve of been her married to Victor having his children, but instead she gave it all up for a night of confusion and lust.

She didn’t need to ask about Alex, she had seen his wedding being broadcasted on MTV a few years ago to some model. He had also gone solo after the break up of the Backstreet boys only two years after she had left. In a way it was good it wasn’t the same anyways since Kevin had left the group earlier. She didn’t know how she felt about him all she knew was that he was a father and he didn’t even know. She was brought back from her memory lane by Amber shaking her.

“Mom, we are about to land, you need to put your seat belt on”, said Amber looking at her worriedly. Amber didn’t quite understand why after seventeen years her mom finally decided it was time to stay in one place only. Dallas, was going to be there permanent home from now on, she preferred Mexico she felt more free. But, her mom made her understand that it was better in the U.S. cause that was where all their close family was. Did that mean her father was there too? Her mom never talked about her father to her, she always found a way to skip that subject. In a way Amber accepted it because she thought that maybe her father was abusive to her mother and that’s why she never mentioned him to her. She had seen that happen on movies and some of her friends did not live with their father for that reason. So she assumed that was why she didn’t have a dad either. But now she was ready to know his name at least, see if he was alive, and if he had other kids. She had been pressuring her mom into talking about her father for the past two weeks, and now that they are moving to the States permanently she assumed it was because her mother was ready to talk also.
