Chapter 27
It was Saturday and her dad was pampering her with this
expensive spa treatment. He wanted her to look good for prom that night. She
had just gotten her hair done and even though all she really wanted was a
hairstyle, she then decided she needed a new look for her new life which
included her father and grandmother. She finally arrived to her apartment, expecting
to find only her parents she opened the door and tossed her stuff on the floor.
“Is that how you make your entries all the time?” he asked
her as he saw her come in; she was looking gorgeous even if she was not
entirely ready.
“Oh, my god you scared me! Hey when did you get here? Wait
why are you here? That is more like the question.” She hugged him and quickly
started picking up her shopping bags. She was a little embarrassed now and she
quickly started blushing.
“Well I got the news that you were single and that you had
no prom date. So I got on a plane and got here just in time to ask you to your
prom.”
“Really? Who could have spread this rumor so quick?” she
asked as she came back from throwing her stuff into her room.
“Well I could give you twenty names but all you need is
two,” he emphasized the number two with his fingers as he gave her his killer
smile. Thanks to his dad he had gotten that killer smile.
“Ok, let me guess it was my dad and your dad’s brilliant
idea!” she said as she took a seat in the living room.
“Well, actually it was your mom’s and dad’s idea.” He sat beside her and looked into her green
eyes as he spoke again, “so is it a yes or a no?”
“Well, I can’t just say no, I mean you came all the way
from New York just to go with me to prom. That is very flattering, besides it
would be cool to take a more mature man that is in college to prom. Hey,
talking about college aren’t you going to miss you classes, because of this?”
“Don’t worry Amber I got that all taken care of, so what do
you say?” He really liked her; since he met her at Howie’s wedding and if it
wouldn’t have been for her comment of having a boyfriend he probably would made
a move long time ago. She was different; for sure his dad and mom would be ok
with her she was the daughter of Alex, his dad’s friend. Just by the talks they
had on the phone and by email she understood him well. She was a great friend,
but she could be more if she gave him a chance.
“I’d love to go to prom with you Baylee but, I am agreeing to
this because I like your company as a friend. You’re an incredible guy and
everything but, I still have feelings for Ricky. If you’re ok with this then
let’s go to prom.” She looked into his ocean blue eyes, god his eyes were just
so attractive. She liked Baylee a lot but, she loved Ricky right? She still had
the idea that maybe the Ricky she had met when she first arrived to Dallas
would come back to her. Baylee was a very attractive man and his ideas where
awesome. His perspectives were close to hers and he was hilarious, of course he
knew when to be funny. He was…Baylee, and there just wasn’t any denying that
she was attracted to him.
“I’ll take that, just as friends,” he smiled at her and
kissed her hand like a real gentleman does. For now anyway, he said to himself.
He liked her and he could tell she liked him too, but he understood the
situation with Ricky. “Ok, well then go get ready; I’ll come back for you
around 6:30 is that good?”
“Yeah, sure that’s ok and thanks for being a good friend
Baylee.” She hugged him and with that she walked away to her room.

She leaned her head on to his chest and slowly closed her
eyes, listening to the steady beat of his heart. This was truly a dream that
sooner or later she would wake up from. “Alex pinch me please.”
“Huh, why?” he asked her as ran his hand through her hair.
He couldn’t imagine himself with anyone else at this moment.
“I want to reassure myself that this is not a dream that I
am here laying with the man I love.” She smiled as she looked around White Rock
Lake; it was a lovely day in the late February, spring was just around the
corner.
He smiled and instead pulled her face gently toward his,
“Pam, this isn’t a dream we are together finally and for good, you’re stuck
with me. I am her for the long run.” He kissed her gently and was a little
surprised when she intensified the kiss but, he gladly responded to her.
After the kiss she responded to his comment, “I am here for
the long run too.”
He smiled at her and then went back to admiring the lake.
“The picnic was great, I liked everything.”
“What picnic? It was just McDonalds,” she rolled her eyes
as she saw him take a zip at his drink.
“Exactly, you know what I like! Hey you know what; right at
this moment Amber has found out about our guest.”
************
She looked at herself in the mirror one last time, she
looked decent but, she felt betrayed. She felt stupid, why did she tell Baylee
that she only was interested in being his friend. When the truth was that she
was attracted to him and that she feared Ricky was not coming back. If true be
told she hated Ricky at this point, he had moved on so quickly to a new girl.
If he could do it so could she right? Baylee was not just anybody, he was her
friend and he was a true gentleman. God she was confused, but there was no
denying the attraction she had for Baylee. She sighed and finished putting on
her shoe. She was ready and she had a few minutes to spare. She walked to the
living room and turned on the television, it had been a while since she had
done that. She searched through the channels till she saw her father’s picture
pop out. It was VH1 remembering the Pop era in the late 90’s. She smiled as she
saw Howie and his funky hair back then. “Man Nick what a hottie he was.” Then
she saw her dad again, he was – Crazy.
She was listening to “I’ll Never Break Your Heart” and felt tears come
to her face. That song was beautiful and was not helping the way she was
feeling. But, still she could not get herself from changing the channel. Just
then she heard a knock on her door and got up to answer it.
“Ready?” asked Baylee as he walked into the apartment. He
smiled as he saw the T.V. and what was playing. “You know my mom comes out on
this video!”
“No, really?” she asked him as she got her keys and purse
from the coffee table.
“Yeah, look there she is.” He pointed to the screen and
smiled at it. “So you ready to go?”
“Yeah, let’s go…” She looked at him and she had to admit he
looked good. She shivered when he touched her hand to twirl her around.
“You look stunning and the new do is awesome. Auburn hair
it makes your eyes look greener.”
“Thanks,” she blushed and turned off the T.V.
***********
Come away with me in the night
Come away with me
And I will write you a song…
“Since when do
you listen to Norah Jones?” she asked him as she walked into his room.
He smiled and
paused the music coming out of his laptop so he could speak. “Since a while
back, I just really like this song.” He gestured for her to have a seat next to
him.
“I like this song
too.” She took a seat next to him on the bed.
“What are you
drinking?” he asked as he tried to take a look at the cup she was holding.
“Coffee, why?
Want some?” she took a sip of the cup.
“No, I’m good.
Hey dance with me?” he said as he stood up and pulled her up too.
“Watch it! My
coffee is good; I don’t want it to spill.” She placed the cup on the side table
and asked, “What are we dancing too?” She wrapped her arms around his neck as
he wrapped his around her waist. Then she started to giggle as she heard Alex
singing:
Come away with me in the night
Come away with me
And I will write you a song
Come away with me on a bus
Come away with me where they can't tempt us
With their lies
I want to walk with you
On a cloudy day
In fields where the yellow grass grows
knee high
So won't you try to come
Come away with me and we'll kiss
On a mountain top
Come away with me
And I'll never stop loving you
And I want to wake up with the rain
Falling on a tin roof
While I'm safe there in your arms
So all I ask is for you
To come away with me in the night
Come away with me…
He looked at her
and whispered to her, “Come away with me
forever…”
She felt weak and
shivers down her spine as he told her that. She had trouble speaking and all
she could do was kiss him. She was in love, Pamela
Fernandez was in love and she was being loved in return. She cleared her
throat and finally spoke, “that was gorgeous and Norah has competition.”
“Well, I still
think she does a great job on this song.” He pulled her into his arms again and
staring into her eyes he asked her, “Marry me tonight…Pamela marry me right
now.”
“I….Oh, Alex as
tempting as that sounds I really want to have our friends their witnessing our
love and Amber. Don’t you?” she felt her heart speed up and started blushing
thinking that Alex probably could hear it too.
“Yes I do, but I
don’t think I can wait for to long. I need you with me, I love you and soon I
will be leaving for a tour, for months. I just want to be with you and know
that this time its for real, you won’t leave again….” He caressed her cheek and
smiled as they danced to the humming of Pamela.
She stopped
humming and smiled at him. “I love you too and I don’t want you think that I
would ever leave you again.” She then kissed his lips tenderly and started a
trail down to his neck…
“Pam, you don’t
have to this, I can wait. I know you, I don’t want you to regret anything.” he
stopped her before she could pull his t-shirt off.
She put a finger
on his mouth and spoke again “Your right I don’t have to, but I want to. You
know Alex I have treasured that night
all my life and I can’t deny that I yearn for your touch again. You made feel
special and loved, that’s why I didn’t marry Victor. But, I couldn’t see you
again either, because I was afraid of the feelings I was feeling. So I ran away
from them or thought so anyway. But, the truth is the memories of that night
never left my side. Alex I want to be happy for once and what makes me happy is
being with you….and Amber.” She kissed him again and this time he responded to
her with passion.
He had longed for
this moment to come again, he felt overwhelmed. She no longer cared what other
people thought of her she loved him and he loved her. He suddenly felt new to
this, he was afraid of messing up, but then suddenly that feeling left and he
knew exactly what to do.
She closed her
eyes as Alex gave in and ever so gently started to undress and caress her…
