Chapter 31

3 Months Later…

What day is it? And in what month?
This clock never seemed so alive
I can't keep up and I can't back down
I've been losing so much time

Cause it's you and me and all other people with nothing to do
Nothing to lose
And it's you and me and all other people
And I don't know why, I can't keep my eyes off of you

All of the things that I want to say just aren't coming out right
I'm tripping on words
You've got my head spinning
I don't know where to go from here

Cause it's you and me and all other people with nothing to do
Nothing to prove
And it's you and me and all other people
And I don't know why, I can't keep my eyes off of you

There's something about you now
I can't quite figure out
Everything she does is beautiful
Everything she does is right

Cause it's you and me and all other people with nothing to do
Nothing to lose
And it's you and me and all other people
And I don't know why, I can't keep my eyes off of you
and me and all other people with nothing to do
Nothing to prove
And it's you and me and all other people
And I don't know why, I can't keep my eyes off of you

What day is it?
And in what month?
This clock never seemed so alive

The song finished and everyone applauded. She smiled and kissed her husband. It was a sudden thing, but she was happy. Nick truly was the man she wanted. “I love you.”

“I love you too, Gracie.” He kissed her again. Now he moved to Dallas, but it didn’t matter because he was Gracie. Alex had passed on the house he had bought for Pamela to him and Grace. “For your new life, Nick. You will make a great husband, it was about time too. Make her happy, she deserves it and you deserve to be happy too.” He smiled to himself as he remembered Alex’s words when he handed him the keys to the house he had bought. He shook his head and tried to think of happier thoughts. Everyone was here to celebrate his day. He just couldn’t help but, feel sad for his friend and the unhappiness that followed him around like a shadow. He truly hoped the best for him, he was the one that had told him to marry Gracie and never let her go. He happened to look to the direction where Alex was and felt worse I he saw the look on his friend. He had been yearning for a moment like this to happen between him and Pamela for so long and it hadn’t happened yet.

“Hey, mom? How you’ve been?” asked Amber through the phone.

“I could be better, Amber…but, you didn’t call for that did you?” she sighed into the phone. Since the incident she had to run again… but, before she did she had a long talk with Alex and Amber. This time it was just her alone in a place away from everyone. She loved Alex and Amber but, after all that had happened she needed time. She tried to call off the engagement, but, Alex didn’t let her. “I know your scared because of what he said but, the truth is Pamela that you love me and I love you. You need time to forget all of this it’s understandable and I am willing to give you that time. But, please don’t; don’t end us because of guilt. You are not guilty of what he did. You did the right thing when you didn’t marry him, you didn’t love him. Now go and do what you need to do to be ok, I will wait for you.”  She cleared her throat and paid her daughter the attention she needed. “Sorry honey, it’s the phone line I couldn’t hear you.”

“It’s ok, mom I am just calling to let you know that I got in! I am going Julliard. New York here I come! Dad is thrilled because just when I arrive there in August he will be in town for a concert. He said he is going to show me what New York is all about!” She stopped her bragging and sighed, “Mom I miss you and I hope you come home soon.”

“How’s Gracie and mom?” she changed the subject before Amber could expand on the other subject.

“Good, Aunt Gracie is totally glowing and I think she may be pregnant, but then again who am I to know this kind of stuff? Grandma is ok, she is still very moody but, she is ok she does ask about you… They all miss you too.”

“Honey, tell them I miss them too and that I will see them as soon as I can. I have to go hun, but I love you so much don’t forget that.” She hung up before Amber could say another word. She hated sounding rude especially to her daughter but, she just couldn’t bear to listen to her, tell her how much they missed her. She looked at the ring on her left hand and smiled. She loved Alex with all her heart but, she couldn’t do it. She felt guilty about Victor, because of her choices two people had died. Her father was the first and now Victor. She sighed and began to write the goodbye letter she had wanted to write since she had left Dallas for good for the second time. She had thought through it hard and it was the best for everyone. She did go to Amber’s graduation and Gracie’s wedding but, she knew she needed to stay away. She felt that way she couldn’t harm anyone else. She had gone out to look for a job and was starting to look for a real home; she couldn’t live in this hotel. She was interrupted by a knock on her door…

As the door opened and she saw the woman on the other side she wanted to say it was all a mistake she had the wrong door. But, she had recognized her, she could tell by the look on her face. “Hi Pamela, can I have a word with you?”

She didn’t know what to say so she just let her in. Christine was in her hotel room. “Please have a seat.” She took a seat in front of her and cleared her throat, “would you like something to drink?”

“If you have Alcohol, I take some Vodka with two ice cubes” she said as she pointed to the mini bar in the hotel room.

“Ok,” said Amber as she got up and prepared her the drink. She thought for a minute and then she too poured herself some Vodka. She had a feeling she was going to need some.

“Thank you,” she said as she took one of the glasses. “So you may be asking yourself what the hell I am doing here, well let me tell you. I’ve heard about all the shit that has happened and I personally wanted to know if you were ok?” she told her with a doubtful look on her face.

“Now I could say I believe you but, I don’t. So tell me what you really are doing here?” she answered and took a drink from her glass.

“Fine, I heard about you running away again… and no, I didn’t hear it from Alex. Let’s just say I heard it from someone close to you. Anyways I came to tell you to wake and smell the coffee! You and Alex are it; I was married to Alex for what? Ten years and NEVER did I saw him like I have since he went back with you! Pamela life is full of regrets and mistakes. But, some are good for you. Yes the consequences to some of the mistakes are bad, but you loving Alex is not a mistake, it’s a fact. I was once told that no matter how bad life has treated you, you have to take it as a positive turn. Now you can stay here or anywhere the fact will remain, you love him. I once felt like that and man when I wasn’t near that person I felt like half of me was missing. I know you’re here but, you can’t lie to me and tell me that you don’t think about him more than half of the time? Pamela I postponed an appearance to come and see you because I care for him. He was once mine and I loved him, I also got to know him emotionally. Let me tell you that all this is killing him, you again left him and he feels like shit. He’s a wonderful man Pamela and he deserves to be happy. You deserve to be happy. So basically I am not leaving this hotel till you go back to him. Let go of the past and live for the future.” She squeezed Pamela’s hand and gave her a sincere smile.

“It’s not as easy as it seems Christine. I just…” she looked at Christine and couldn’t tell her anything because she was right. Still she couldn’t do it, it was too painful…

Alex looked out his hotel room, he tried feeling and looking happy. But, he wasn’t he couldn’t stop thinking of Pamela. Still he hadn’t heard from her…he only knew she was ok because of Amber. “God, please don’t let me loose her again.” He was in Sin City and yet he hadn’t left his room since he arrived. The only time he was out of his room was when he was performing. Tomorrow he would be in Oklahoma, he used to enjoy this but lately the only thing in his mind was her… HE was a little happy to learn his daughter had been accepted to Julliard. He closed his window and was about to turn on his T.V. when he heard the knock on his door. Who could it be, it couldn’t be Kim she told him she would be at Caesar’s Palace trying to become a millionaire. He looked through the hole and was startled by the food cart that stood there. He opened the door, “Excuse me ma’am I didn’t order room service….” He stopped talking when he saw who it was.

“I know, I did…Are you going to let me in?” she smiled as he made way so she could come in with the food cart. She turned around and laughed at the face Alex had, “So can I interest you in some very late dinner?” she stopped talking as Alex kissed her hungrily.

“How…”he smiled as she kissed him this time.

“I got people too you know…” she hugged him Longley and smiled as she felt safe. Everything about him made her feel safe.

“I love you….You couldn’t of come in a better time.” He held on to her and just wanted to stay like that for ever. So many things had happened and none made him regret being with her…

“So…” they both laughed “you go first,” he told her.
