Chapter 4
It had been
a month since they settled down in Dallas. Pamela was able to get a good job
and was able to get Amber enrolled for her senior year in High School. Even
though she lived in Mexico Pamela always taught Amber English and of course
everything in U.S. history. She wanted her daughter to know both of her
cultures well. Amber was smart and spoke both Spanish and English fluently.
That’s why she had passed the test she took to place her in the grade she
needed to be. Yet she was a rebel, she had gotten her belly button pierced and
a tattoo on her right shoulder blade without Pamela’s permission. Pamela knew
exactly from where her taste to those kinds of things came from, her dad. Even
though she and Amber came to an agreement that if she was to get any more
things done to her body she would tell her, she had a feeling that she wouldn’t
till it was done. She smiled remembering Amber’s first baby steps, the first
time she said mommy, and the first day she went to school. Amber was a special
girl; she had a great smile that made everyone smile. She had a great sense of
humor and her eyes were gorgeous, green just like her grandpa with long
eyelashes just like her dad. She had come to a conclusion with Amber that if
everything went well in school during Christmas she would take to see her
farther and answer all her questions.
Now that she thought about it was actually not far from today, in
exactly four months her daughter would know about her father. Now she had to
find a way to tell him.
***********
“Students
we have a new student in our class her name is Amber Jade M. Fernandez”, called
out Mr. Peters as Amber stood beside him. So far the school seemed different
and well this was the first time she would attend and all English language
school.
“You can
call me Amber,” she said out loud as she smiled to her class mates. Yeah this
was going to be a long year, god she needed to go back to home with her friends. She tried to concentrate on the class but
she kept thinking about what her mother promised to do in Christmas break. She
was finally going to meet her dad.
Since she can remember her mother seemed to be
caring a burden, and she never spoke about it. She always could hear her mother
crying at nights about things but, especially about her grandfather. She never
really understood why, but it hurt her to hear her mother like that. Man she
had so many questions to ask Just as she
was going to focus on paying attention the bell rang and it was time to go to
anther class. She grabbed her things and started to walk when she felt a tap on
her shoulder.
“Hi, I’m
Ricardo but my friends call me Rick; so Amber where do you come from?” asked
Rick as he walked beside her in the hallway. He thought she was attractive so
he decided to go up and start a conversation with her.
Well, I
have lived in Mexico all my life, I mean did come in the summer to the U.S. to
visit my family,” said Amber as she smile back at the young man who was now
walking beside her. He wasn’t that bad looking and he had a great smile. Just
then, she saw someone identical to Rick come and give him a punch in the arm.
She was sort of confused were they twins?
“Amber,
this is my brother Ralph” said Rick while he smacked his brother in return.
“If you’re
wondering, yes we’re twins,” said Ralph as he shook Amber’s hand.
“So, what
do you have next Amber?” asked Rick.
“I have
Pre-Cal, room 230 with Mrs. Green” said Amber looking at her Schedule.
“Great we
do too, so come on she gets pretty upset if we’re tardy!” said Rick running up
the first set of stairs followed by Amber and Ralph.
“So have
you met anyone besides me and Rick,” asked Ralph as they reached the last set
of stairs. Rick was already waiting for them at the top.
“No, not
yet but hopefully I will,” said Amber as she reached Rick.
“Don’t
worry well introduce you to our friends and to Jessica my girl,” said Ralph
smiling as he saw her coming towards them.
Yeah, Amber
was going to be ok, she had just met to cool guys. To which one of them she was
sort of attracted to. Maybe this year wasn’t going to be that bad after all….
******
“Are you sure this is
correct Shelly?” asked Pamela as she looked at the address she had scribbled
down. Some how she wanted to be wrong but Shelly was good at getting addresses
especially Celebrity addresses. She had everything planned out already thanks
to Gracie’s and Shelly’s help. In exactly one week she would be in California
to find Alex and tell him he was father. She had it all planned out, she was to
tell Amber she was taking a short trip to Mexico to finish the sell on their
house. But, instead she would be on her way to California to talk with Alex;
she needed to make sure her daughter wouldn’t get hurt. What if he didn’t
believe her or if he didn’t want to meet Amber? Then she would have to tell
Amber and not cause her the pain of being rejected. If that was the case she
would make him at least write a letter to tell her that he didn’t want her in
his life. Pamela in her heart wished he wouldn’t reject her, Amber was a great
girl and she needed a real father in her life…
