Chapter 9

So, here she was walking up what was her prison for ten years. She sighed as she opened the door realizing this was not her house anymore. She was about to go back out when she saw him smile and asked her to come in. With hesitation she closed the door and walked to the living room. “So, what was so important Alex that you couldn’t tell me by phone?” she asked him as put a strand of her hair behind his ear.

“You look nice Christine, you look lovely. I know this hard for you but I need you to know by me. Why don’t you have a seat.” He was having trouble bringing up what he wanted to tell her, somehow he felt bad about it. Like all the rumors about him cheating on her were true. Even though Amber was born way before he met her or even married her.

“Yeah, you look good to, Alex. I know that what ever you have to tell me must very important because you have that nervous look on you face. Its ok Alex don’t be nervous just tell me. I don’t think it can be worse than what…happened with our child.” She had to look down after mentioning it; it still burned her heart to know she killed her own child.

Alex heart felt a tug when he heard Christine talk about their child. “I have a daughter who’s seventeen years old and lives in Dallas.” He just let it out with out thinking it; it was like he couldn’t hold it and just let it out. He saw Christine's face emotion change fast to that of surprise.

“Wh...What? You’re kidding right? I mean how come you never told me? Oh, my god! I need a DRINK and I mean with alcohol.” She plopped on the nearest couch trying to digest what her husband told her, well EX-husband actually.

“I don’t have alcoholic beverages sorry. But there’s more I need to tell you I just want to know if you are ok to hear it?” he asked her as he sat next to her.

She nodded signaling him to continue. There was no way she was not going to want to know!

“Ok, well…….”

*****

It was a rainy day in Dallas, but Pamela liked this weather because it fit her mood. She had come back from California just two days ago and well things didn’t quite go the way she expected it. Amber was dating some kid from her school. Her mother’s condition was not getting better. Pamela felt her tears come down her cheeks as she sat on the cool cement of a grave in Meadow Creek Cemetery. It wasn’t pouring like before but if you stayed out long enough you could get wet. She laid the flowers she had brought with her on the grave and before she knew it she let go and started crying like a babies do when they’re hungry. She cried till she felt that she had no more tears to cry out. She looked at her clock and realized she had been there longer than she had expected. She got up and took one more look at her dad’s grave before she started walking away. She had so many things running through her head. She had to tell Amber about her dad, she knew that her daughter would be more than ready to know it all. But, it was her that couldn’t handle this she just couldn’t accept it. She was now going to be forced to see, be in the same room, and maybe even sleep in the same house with Alex. She couldn’t do that because even after all these years she found out that she still had very strong feelings towards him. She was just thinking to herself when she was brought back to reality by a loud hunk. Before she could do anything she felt a strong push on her car, she realized then that her car was rolling. She had just gotten into an accident!

Alex knew he could count on Christine, she was a great person. She did take a few minutes to process all the information but, once she did she was ok with it. He was now hoping that soon he would get a call from Pamela in concern to Amber. He stopped and looked around the house, it was huge and elegant and hopefully amber would accept to come and stay with him for a while. Of course she could bring Pamela along that was her mother and he wasn’t planning on leaving her out at all. He was about to get a drink out of the kitchen when his cell phone rang. He answered anxiously thinking that maybe it was Pamela.

“Hello?” He asked as he put his other hand in his pocket.

“Uh, yeah is this Alex?” asked Gracie as she tried not to cry anymore.

“Who’s looking for him” asked Alex as he tried to recognize the voice in the other side.

Gracie let out a sigh as she recognized his voice. She tried to sound like she was ok, but the truth was she wasn’t. She was the only person able to speak to Pamela before she fell into a coma. Now she had to go through with promise she made her. “Alex it’s me Gracie Pam’s sister. I am calling you because something happened and Amber needs you…she couldn’t hold it any more she started to sob again.” She controlled her emotions again just enough to tell him that Pamela was in coma and the doctors hopes for her to ever come out of it were not to high.

Alex couldn’t believe what he was hearing. Tears rolled down his cheeks with out his permission he had no control over them. He replied to Gracie after minutes and said, “I’m on my way, don’t worry she is going to be ok I know she will.” He hung up with Gracie and without thinking twice he started packing for his trip. He sighed knowing that his mother was going to have to wait to find out she was a grandma. Right now his daughter needed him and well he needed to do what he could to get Pamela up and well again.
