Chapter 2
The strip lighting above his head was
harsh, and the noise didn’t do much for his throbbing head. His arm was aching
from being held to his head continually for the past hour but he knew it was
better than blood trickling down his face. Hospitals were a great place to
people watch but right now he would rather be at home but as always Kevin had
made him go to the emergency room.
“You should get it checked, it might
need stitches, and you could be concussed. I’ll drive you.” He re-played in his
mind. Yeah great and now where was Kev? He had disappeared to get coffee half
hour ago and hadn’t returned.
“I see you’re day hasn’t gotten
better.” A familiar voice snapped him from his thoughts and he gazed into a
pair of Hazel eyes. There she stood in front of him, she was breath taking. How
come he hadn’t realised that this morning? Chestnut hair pulled into a
ponytail, where they pink tips at the end? A fine layer of mascara framed her
eyes, a light tinge of blush highlighted her high cheek bones and full round
lips had a layer of clear gloss. A pink set of scrubs clung to her curvy full
figure and he saw that she was holding a clipboard probably with his
information on it.
“You’re a nurse?” He asked.
“Are you always this observant or is
it just the knock to your head?” She replied as she chuckled. “Do you want to
come through and I can look at that?” She said as she nodded towards the towel
that was pressed to his forehead. He followed her through the doors and into a
cubicle where she told him to sit on the bed as she grabbed a stool and took a
pew.
“So Mr Carter can I take a look?” She
asked as she pulled on a pair of rubber gloves. He removed the towel and winced
as she touched the area.
“Sorry, didn’t mean to hurt you,” She
said as she gazed her eyes down to meet his. She continued to examine the area.
“So what were you doing to get this? Another car accident?” She asked half
jokingly.
“No actually. I was playing basketball
and tripped, hit my head against a bench,” He said, as he again winced when the
area was touched.
“So that’s where your somewhere
important was, playing basketball?” Before he had time to respond she was
already asking other questions.
“Any head ache at all?”
“Not as in headache just well like a
bruised feeling were I fell,” He replied.
“Any Nausea? Or have you vomited?”
“Nope not at all.”
“Okay can you follow my finger for
me?” He did as he was asked following her finger as it moved from side to side
then up and down.
“Okay now can you grip my hands as
hard as you can?” Again he did as he was asked, her hands were so warm and
inviting, he nearly forgot to let go.
“Okay and can you stick out your
tongue for me?” He felt stupid in doing so but he once again did as he was
asked.
“That’s great. I just need to find a
doctor to get a look at you I will be right back.” He followed her as she moved
towards the nurses’ station, well in actual fact he followed her butt. In his
defensive it was a very nice butt and ones eyes would naturally fall upon it.
“Could you be anymore obvious in what
you are looking at?” Kevin’s voice startled him and he quickly averted his
eyes.
“Shut up she’s coming back” he hissed
as he returned her smile.
“Doctor Ramsay this is Mr Carter, he
fell and hit his head on a bench whilst playing basket ball, deep laceration
the left side of his forehead, neuro obs are all fine, no complaints of
headache or sickness and he didn’t loose consciousness at all.”
“Okay Mr Carter mind of I take a
look?” The middle aged balding doctor quickly glanced over Nicks wound and in
agreement with Nurse Evans decided it would need suturing and Nick could be
sent on his way.
After half an hour Nick was fixed up
and Edie watched from the nurses station as he left through the main doors. The
whole time she had been suturing his head she had felt his eyes boring into
her. She knew that he had been watching her ass every time her back was turned
to him and she couldn’t deny that he did nothing for her, but like most of the
good looking guys she fixed up, he was gone back out into the world and she was
stuck here for another eight hours.
