Chapter 21
We sat down, facing each other.
Jessica took a deep sigh and started speaking:
“You probably don’t know who i am. I
had introduced Nick and Elizabeth back in winter of 1995, y’know Nick’s
popularity was increasing in Europe. Those days, i was dating with Nick’s best
friend Brent and that’s how Nick and I met. He was always busy with his group
so Brent was seeing him rarely. Then at last, Nick had some free time and Brent
organized a small surprise party for him. To be two couples, i decided to
invite my best friend Elizabeth.” I nodded knowingly, this was the part my dad
had told me before.
“So I invited her and i did the
biggest fault of my life.” She looked at my mother’s direction. “She hadn’t
liked the idea at first, due to the fact that she didn’t know Nick. I told her
how a nice guy he was, not to mention gorgeous.” She laughed softly. My dad was
a heartthrob back in the 90s. “I almost begged her to come. Cos to my opinion,
they’d make a cute couple together. How wrong i was.” She scoffed.
“I reckon, you can imagine the
rest, they saw each other and fell in
love immediately. Actually, they were created for each other, everybody was
getting jealous cuz of their tremendous relationship. They were meant to be,
they were soul mates, they were created for each other, they were everything
for each other. Both of them wasn’t the type to fell in love or could go on in
a steady relationship for a long time, but they did. There was just one thing
that was concerning me; they were moving so fast. Y’know what i mean, almost at
the fifth month of their relationship they had sex. Elizabeth was so happy that
she gave her virginity to him cuz she was planing to marry with him someday.
But i told her not to go up on Cloud number 9, i was older and more experinced
than her and i already had learned that fairytales wouldn’t last forever. And
as i expected, after they had sex, Nick quitted calling everyday like he used
to do. Within two months, he went on tour again and he just called Eliza once
in a week unwillingly, i guess, by force. He started forgetting their speacial
days, even Elizabeth’s birthday. And when she reminded him that, he whined
about being so busy. Not long after, Elizabeth realized that she was pregnant.
When she was two months old pregnant Nick wasn’t calling anymore. You can
imagine the dissapointment she had to face. She was cursing the day he had met
Nick, making me regret more and more day by day.”
“See,” she said pointing the walls.
“That’s why i hate Nick. He doesn’t know how much she suffered. He forgot
elizabeth just in a week, we had seen a photo of him and a girl kissing each
other in a mag. Elizabeth swore to God that she would never ever see Nick
again. Of course she didn’t want his child either. She was just 16 then, she’d
lived a lot than a normal 16-year-old could handle. That’s why she left you.
She had her heart broken, she had given everything she could to him. But when
she got older, she realized how important you were, her own blood, but it was
too late, you were already out on the eyes of media. Elizabeth couldn’t even
hate Nick after all he had done, and didn’t want to create a new scandal and
she tried to forget you, by being a kindergarten teacher.” She finished. I
looked down.
“Look, I didn’t tell you all this to
make you hate your dad. Even though what he did in the past, he could raise you
as a very clever sweet lady and made you who you are today. I told you this so
that you won’t blame your mother anymore.”
“I..I didn’t blame her but i couldn’t
think of any particular reason either...that’s why i defended my dad before.”
She stood up and walked towards a
small library. She picked a worn-out, thick notebook and came back to me.
“Take this.” She said handing me the
notebook. “This was her last wish. So that you can learn the past.”
“Is it her diary?” I asked and she
nodded.
Right then, undertakers came into the
room to take my mother to hoarse.
“Wait!” I said suddenly. “Can i say my
last goodbye to her?”
“Yeah you can.” Said one of the
undertakers. “But please be quick.” Including Jessica, they left the room.
“Hey mom...” I said holding her hand. “I love you.” With that, I
placed a soft kiss on her cold cheek. “Sleep peacefully.” I whispered and
released her hand, going out of her room, clucthing the diary she wrote
everything.
