Brian and AJ walked side by side down the hall, towards Nick’s
room. The door was open partway when
they got there. AJ peered in, and
gasped.
“Mandy’s in there!” he hissed to Brian.
Brian’s eyes widened, and he peeked in as well. Mandy was perched on the edge of Nick’s bed,
holding his hand, and the two of them were deep in conversation.
Brian stepped back into the hall.
“What’s she doing with him?” he asked angrily.
“I have no idea,” AJ said, his voice low. “But I don’t like it.”
“Me neither,” Brian said.
Neither one of them had liked Mandy from the start, and after she had
left Nick, causing him so much pain and misery, they had pretty much hated
her.
“Hey, she’s getting ready to leave,” AJ said, peeking back into
the room. He saw Mandy kiss Nick on the
cheek and climb off the bed. “Come
here.”
He and Brian quickly ducked into the nearest waiting room, out of
Mandy’s sight. They watched as she
walked quickly down the hall, and then AJ jumped up. “Come on, let’s follow her,” he said, creeping
back out into the hall. Brian followed
behind him.
They followed a ways behind Mandy down the hall. They watched as she turned a corner, heading
to a small, deserted area with vending machines, a couple of empty chairs, and
a pay phone. Peeking around the corner,
they watched as she sat down in one of the chairs and took her cell phone out
of her purse. She dialed a number and
waited for a moment.
“Hi, Brittany!” she said a moment later, talking to probably one
of her friends. “It’s me… Yeah, I’m at
the hospital right now… Uh-huh… He’s definitely falling for it… I know… It’s
the perfect plan. I pretend to be sorry
and act like I love him again, get him to think he still loves me, and then
when he kicks off, I’ll be included in his inheritance. I’ll be rich!”
AJ gasped, but before he could say anything, Brian stormed around
the corner, to where Mandy was sitting.
AJ watched in shock as Brian ripped the cell phone from her hand and
hurled it across the room.
“You bitch!” Brian said, glaring at Mandy. “You little bitch! You think you’re going to get away with
something so horrible? I don’t think
so!”
“B… but, Brian, I… I was just kidding!” Mandy said, laughing
slightly. “You didn’t really think I
meant that… did you?”
“You did mean it, and you know it!” Brian yelled. “Now get out of here, and don’t come
back! You betrayed Nick once already,
and I’m not going to let you do it again!
No, go, before I call security!”
Mandy’s eyes were wide with fear.
She opened her mouth, as if she were going to say something to him, then
closed it again, turned, and fled the room.
