Chapter 4

Brian opened his eyes and looked upward. He found himself gazing up at the night sky. "What am I doing out here?" he thought, confused. Then, it all came back to him. He started to sit up, but was stopped by a horrible pain in his chest. He gasped in pain, and lay back. As his eyes adjusted to the darkness, he noticed something on top of him. It looked like a pole. Suddenly, he realized it was a metal pole, and it wasn't on top of him, it was stuck in him. He gasped as he put his hand over his chest and felt the pole protruding from his skin, blood seeping around it. The pain was horrible. Tears came to his eyes and he began to breathe harder.

Suddenly, he heard faint crying near him. He looked in the direction of the noise and saw someone lying just a few feet away from him. He realized it was Angel.

"Angel!" he cried. The crying stopped.

"Brian?" came her faint reply.

"I'm right here, Ang," he said. "It's okay." He reached his hand out to her. "Squeeze my hand, Angel," he said. He heard her moan in pain, but a moment later, her hand grabbed onto his and squeezed it tightly. Her hand was ice cold.

"Brian, I'm scared," Angel said. She began to cry again.

"I'm scared too, sweetie," Brian said, hoping to comfort her. His chest was killing him, but he knew he had to be there for her.

"My tummy hurts," Angel said softly. "I'm bleeding too." Brian felt panic rise inside of him, but he tried not to show it.

"Just hang on, Ang," he said.

Suddenly, another sharp pain ripped through his chest. He began to panic as he realized he was having trouble breathing. He needed help right away.
