Chapter

"Nick!"
Brian screamed wheezily. His voice sounded faint. "Nick!" he shouted
again, putting all of his strength into it this time. He felt relief wash over
him as he saw a figure approaching him. When the figure got to him, Brian
realized it was not Nick, but Kevin.
"Kev!"
he cried weakly.
"Brian!"
Kevin gasped. He looked down at his cousin, lying in a ditch, near the broken
chain link fence. He felt a wave of nausea wash over him as he realized that
Brian had a metal pole shoved through his chest. Kevin covered his mouth with
his hand, afraid he would throw up. He knelt beside Brian, trying not to get
Brian upset. He looked at the pole and realized it had come from the fence.
Brian's face and arms were covered in cuts, like AJ's. He must have crashed
through one of the side windows.
"I can't
breathe!" Brian cried. Kevin hovered over him alarmed.
"Calm
down, Bri," he said. He could see that Brian was panicking. He didn't want
him to go into shock. "Take deep breaths," he instructed soothingly.
Brian tried, but his chest hurt terribly. He just wheezed even more.
"Don't worry," Kevin said, squeezing his hand tightly. "Help is
on its way."
"Angel?"
Brian called, realizing her grip on his hand had relaxed. Kevin felt a
sickening sensation come over him as he realized Angel had been with them. In
his panic, he'd forgotten she'd been with them.
"Where is
she?" Kevin asked.
"She's
lying next to me. Over there," Brian said, motioning with his head. Kevin
hurried over to her.
"Angel?"
he asked softly. Her eyes were closed. He gasped as he saw a large red stain on
her shirt. She, too, was covered in cuts from the glass, but that wasn't where
all the blood was coming from. He lifted her shirt partway and saw a huge slash
wound on her stomach. Blood was gushing out of it. "She's losing too much
blood," he thought. He pressed his hand over the wound, but the blood just
seeped through his fingers. "Come on, ambulance, please get here,"
Kevin begged. He knew he couldn't handle all of this on his own.
