Once they reached Nick’s house, they didn’t go right in. Instead, they stood on the front porch, out
of sight of Nick’s mother’s curious eyes.
“I had fun today, Nick,” Angela said.
“Me too,” Nick agreed.
There was nothing but silence, as the two of them just gazed at
each other. Nick was suddenly overcome
with a surge of emotion as he stared down into Angela’s deep brown eyes. He realized once again how beautiful she was,
inside and out. He felt his heartbeat
increase, and a feeling came over him that he had not felt in a long time. He had felt it once for Mandy, but he hadn’t
felt it for anyone since she had left him those many months before. And now, he was feeling it again. Only this time, it was deeper, more intense,
than with Mandy or any other girl.
Could it be that he had fallen in love with Angela?
No, that’s impossible, Nick countered in his
mind. I’ve only known her a few
months, and we’ve only been together in person twice. This kind of stuff only happens in books and
movies, not in real life…. Or does it?
In the next instant, Nick let his instincts take over, letting his
arms slide gently around her waist and his face lower towards hers. He felt her arms come around him, her body
drawing close to his. He saw her eyes
close and her face tilt up to meet his.
And then, their lips touched.
The kiss was like magic. It
was as if there was an explosion when their lips brushed against each
other. It felt perfect, as if it was
meant to be. And maybe it was.
“Oh, Nick,” Angela murmured, as they gently pulled away from one
another. She looked up at him,
smiling. “That… that was wonderful.”
Nick returned her smile and nodded in agreement. “Angela, this may sound… sudden…, but I like
you… a lot. Actually, I think I love
you. Does that sound stupid?”
Angela shook her head slowly.
“No, it doesn’t sound stupid at all, Nick,” she said softly. “Because I feel the same way.”
“Do you believe in love at first sight?” Nick asked.
“I think I do now,” Angela replied, a smile spreading across her
face. “Maybe we’re a pair of star
crossed lovers.”
“Huh?”
“Star crossed lovers. Like
in Romeo and Juliet,” Angela replied, smiling shyly. “Maybe fate brought us together.”
“I hope so,” Nick said.
Angela just grinned. “So…
Romeo and Juliet. You like that
movie?” Nick asked.
“Sure,” Angela replied.
“It’s one of my favorites. We
read the play in English when I was a freshman in high school. That was the year the Leonardo DiCaprio one
came out.”
“I have that movie. Maybe
we could watch it sometime,” Nick suggested hopefully.
“How about tonight?” Angela asked.
“Unless you’re busy, of course.”
“No, I’m not busy. I’d love
to,” Nick replied quickly.
“Okay,” Angela said, grinning.
“Come on, let’s go in,” Nick said, taking her hand. He opened the front door, and they walked in.
