Chapter 12

To his delight, when Nick entered the kitchen, he found a note taped to his refrigerator.

Nick,

Dad and I went out to dinner and then to a movie too.  We won’t be back until late.  BJ took Leslie and the twins out for pizza, but they should be back by six or so.   See you when we get home.

Love,

Mom

“They’re gone,” Nick said aloud.

“What?” Angela asked, coming up behind him.

“Everyone,” Nick said, showing her the note.  “Now we can be alone.”

Angela smiled.  “Great,” she said.

“Yeah,” Nick agreed.  “I really wasn’t looking forward to my mother giving you any more grief.”

Angela shrugged.  “I told you, Nick, that’s okay.  She’ll get over it.  She’ll have to, I guess, now that we’re… together?”  She ended her sentence in a question, not really sure of where they stood, for they had never officiated their relationship.

Nick nodded.  “Yeah… now that we’re together.”  His sentence was a statement, a declaration of his love for her, making their girlfriend/boyfriend status official.

Angela grinned and wrapped her arm around his waist, as he led her into the rec room, where a big screen TV and DVD player were located.

Nick started the movie and sat close to Angela on the big sofa

As the previews played, Nick asked, “So, you a big DiCaprio fan?”

Angela grinned.  “Sure,” she replied.

“Some people say I look like him, ya know,” Nick said.  His eyes held a teasing cast.

“Ah, no.  You two don’t even compare,” Angela countered.  Nick raised an eyebrow.  “You’re much hotter than Leo is.”  She giggled.

Nick grinned smugly, then hit her playfully in the shoulder.

Moments later, the previews ended, and Nick and Angela settled back to watch the classic, romantic Shakespearean tragedy.

Not even halfway into the movie, BJ, Leslie, Angel, and Aaron arrived home.  Out of the corner of his eye, Nick watched as BJ came into the rec room, take one look at Angela and him, who were snuggled up close together on the couch, and walk out, taking the kids to the other end of the house, and giving the couple their privacy.  Nick made a mental note to himself to thank his younger sister later.
