December 31^st Updates

Last DS update of 2005! Aaaaand it’s not an actual update. Sorry. =P I just wanted to post a blurb to mark the end of a memorable year. 2005 has been an awesome year for us Backstreet fans, in terms of the Boys – Backstreet was back (alright)!, and we got a new album, new videos, a bunch of other new material, and, depending on where you live, a new tour or two! I dunno about you all, but all of that helped make 2005 a great year for me, one I’ll always remember.

I also wanted to thank you all for your support of the site in 2005. Some of you may have stumbled onto DS for the first time this year; others of you have been coming here for years. Either way, I really appreciate you visiting and reading the stories and sending feedback to me and the other authors hosted here. You readers are a huge part of the fanfic community; it wouldn’t be half as much fun without you. Those of you who comment on my site or stories definitely make it fun for me, and as long as it’s fun, I’ll keep writing. It’s an important part of my life and really has been an escape for me lately. There’s been some health problems and things going on with members of my family, and more than ever, especially in the last couple of months, fanfic has been my “sanctuary,” just like I say on the index page of the site. When I’m upset and can’t stop thinking and worrying about all the other stuff going on in my life or the lives of people I care about, fanfic makes a great distraction. It’s not a cure, but I think sometimes we need things to distract us from problems we can’t fix ourselves anyway, and writing (and reading) does that for me. So thank you so much for giving me an outlet and an audience to write to; you all mean a lot to me.

I might be a little late in saying this, since it’s already midnight or close to it for many of you overseas, but I hope you’ll all have a fun and safe New Year’s Eve and, more importantly, a happy New Year! Here’s to a fantastic 2006 for us all!!! :)

Hope everyone is having a lovely holiday week. Chapters 99 and 100 of “By My Side” are up!

December 24^th Updates

It’s Christmas Eve, so here come your “Christmas presents.” First up, a new BMS chapter! Chapter 98 of “By My Side” is up. It’s not a particularly exciting chapter, but hope you enjoy it anyway.

And secondly – and definitely more exciting – a new hosted story! This one’s by my friend Shauna. She started it in 2002 and just recently worked up the guts to put it online, so give it a read and show her some love! The story’s called “I’ll Be Your Reason,” and it’s found in the In-Progress section of the Hosted page. Chapters 1 and 2 are up. Enjoy!

No story updates today, but I do have something good for ya. A 2006 Bsb Calendar! Since there doesn’t seem to be an official one yet again this year (at least for the U.S.), I decided to make my own, and I think it turned out pretty good, so I’m putting it up here for anyone else who wants one to download. Chapter 93 of “By My Side” is up. I’ve also added to my Poems and Lyrics page (located under the Author menu) with a few new songs and poems that I’ve written in past years and decided to type up and put on here. The new additions are the poems “Sometimes” and “Ugly” and the songs “Untitled (Love Song)” and “Lost Without You.”

November 17^th Updates

Big update today! Chapters 91-92 of my story “By My Side” are up, as well as Chapters 46-48 of Ginger’s “Avalon Hotel.” Enjoy!

Chapter 90 of “By My Side” is up! I’ve also brought back an old page of my site, now called “Random Amusements,” which just has a bunch of my favorite links to funny pages – online games, flash movies, jokes, etc. – to waste your time. :) Check it out under the Extras menu.

October 29^th Updates

I don’t have any story updates for you today, but I have added/changed some things on the site. First, I added a couple things to my “Other Works” page (which is found under the Author menu) – one is a mock ‘NSync slash site I made a couple years ago that contains a slash parody I wrote called “Space Cowboy,” and the other is a children’s story I wrote for one of my education classes this semester, called “Meggie Writes a Story.” If you’re interested in reading my non-Bsb writings, check those out.

I’ve also gone through my Favorite Fanfics page and fixed some broken links, as well as added some new ones. Here’s the list of changes I’ve made:

My BMSpiration finally came out of hiding, so Chapter 85 of “By My Side” is up!

Also, I realized I forgot to add my guestbook, guestmap, and mailing list subscription thing back onto my main page after the revamp, so that’s all back now. If you haven’t signed the guestbook or guestmap yet, please take a minute and do so! Especially the guestmap… I love seeing what parts of the world my visitors come from, and there are plenty of countries that aren’t represented there yet. So c’mon, represent! LOL

As far as actual updates go, Chapters 40-43 of Ginger’s “Avalon Hotel” are up. And I made something cool – a story database for all of the stories, mine and hosted, on the site. The link is on the Stories menu, in place of the Where to Begin page link. You won’t need my recommendations anymore because now you can search specifically for what kind of story you feel like reading on the database! If you’re feeling in a romantic mood, and your favorite Backstreet Boy is AJ, you can search for AJ romances on DS. Or if you’d rather read something suspenseful or supernatural to get you in the Halloween spirit, and you want a recent story featuring the whole group, you can look those up too. I think it’s cool, and it took me awhile to put it together (cause there’s 144 stories on this site now! Big update today! Chapters 77-78 of my story “By My Side” are up, along with Chapters 11-20 of Annah’s “Incomplete” and Chapters 16-23 of Ginger’s “Avalon Hotel” in the Hosted section.

The fan on my laptop is acting sketchy, so I might have to send my computer in to have it fixed; if that happens, there won’t be any updates for awhile because I won’t have my files or my computer to upload them from (but don’t worry, I have everything backed up). I’ll let you know if that’s the case though.

My friend and fellow author Veronica (webmistress of Backstreet Nights) has started a new Yahoo Group, Safest Place to Hide – A Bsb Fanfic and Writers Support Group. As the title suggests, it’s a group where writers can get together, post and read each other’s stories, send and receive insightful feedback, share writing tips, etc. Readers can also join just to read some great fics and offer the writers their critiques. Because of the nature of the group, participation is important, and therefore, membership is restricted to make sure everyone is a part of the group and no one gets lost in the crowd. For right now, Veronica is only allowing 10 members at a time. So, if you’re interested, apply now! You can do this by going to http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/safestplacetohide/ and signing up for the group. Once you do that, you will be sent a brief application to fill out and email back to Veronica. That’s all there is to it! If the spaces get filled, you will be put on a waiting list and will have the opportunity to join if a space becomes available.

Secondly, I’ve plugged Mare’s “fanfic club” group Fanfic Fun to you all several times in the past couple of years, but I’m gonna do it again, becaaaause… next month I’ve been given the honor of hosting the group discussion on a fanfic of my choice. I’ve chosen one of my more recent favorites, “Cover Me With Dreams” by Heidi. If you haven’t read it, it’s an amazing Nick romance/drama that is cute, funny, sweet, heartbreaking – you name it! It’s a great story, and Heidi will be around to reply to comments about it all month, so I really hope you’ll join the group (if you’re not a part of it already) and read/discuss with us. If you have read it before… all the more reason to join in and either re-read or talk about what you remember! I know it’s a busy time of year, with school starting back up for a lot of us, but this group is a lot of fun and a good way to get exposure to some truly amazing fanfiction. August 26^th Updates

Two days of updates in a row - when was the last time that happened?? LOL I’ve got a big update for you today too! First off, Chapters 70-72 of “By My Side” are up. I gotta warn you, it’s a big part and you’re probably going to hate me for it, but all I can say is, blame Max Martin, cause he made me do it. ;)

Next, Chapters 8-15 of my brand new hosted story, “Avalon Hotel” by Ginger, are up. She’s great about frequent updates, so you’ll see more from her soon I’m sure. Please drop her a line and let her know if you’re enjoying her story so far.

Today is DS’s 5^th birthday! 5 years ago, I started this site. It’s come a long way since then, I’ve grown up and changed, and of course a lot has happened to our Boys, the whole reason DS exists. I don’t think I’ve ever had a hobby that I’ve actively pursued as long as I have this one, and I don’t plan to quit anytime soon. Thanks to all of you visitors and readers for your support over the last 5 years!

I do have an update though – kind of – and that’s NOT an April Fool. I’ve finally decided to officially post the story I’ve been working on for the past year, “By My Side,” which is the sequel to “Broken.” I assume most of the people who wanted to read it have been reading it through the Yahoo Group I made for it, so this probably isn’t very exciting, but oh well. At least the rest of you will have proof that indeed I HAVE been writing for the last year. ;)

This isn’t a real update, I’m afraid, but I did want to let you know that this month, “Fight for Survival,” my first collaboration with Rachel, is being discussed over at Mare’s fanfic of the month group, Fanfic Fun. If you’ve had trouble finding good stories to read lately, join this group! We read and discuss a different fanfic every month with that story’s author, and it’s a lot of fun, as well as a great way to discover good stories you haven’t read before or get a chance to re-read old favorites. You can also request your favorite stories and authors to be featured on the group. If you’re interested, join below. We could really use some new members!!

By golly, I actually have a real update for you today! I’m thrilled to announce that the long-awaited Episode 16 of my collaborated story “Code Blue” is FINALLY done and posted! CB’ s back on, so check it out! Also, my Awards page has been updated – thanks so much to the judges at the Dreams to Words Awards! Two of my stories received their very first awards – “The Other Child” got Best Brian, and “Are You There, God? It’s Me, Brian” took home Best Comedy! Finally, I updated my “Currently…” page (under the Stories menu), as well as my Favorite Fanfics page – I added “Come Together” by Izzy and Cecilia, “The Importance of Fly Fishing” by Mare, “It Stays With You” by Mare, and “Remember Me This Way” by Jen to the list, so check out those links if you’re looking for a good story to read!

Happy New Year! This is the first DS update of 2005, and I’m afraid I don’t have much for you. I’ve been 2005-ing the site, and I put links to my two online journals on the Webmistress menu. Half my friends moved to GreatestJournal.com, so I got a new journal there and decided to turn my LiveJournal into a “fanfic journal,” for me to ramble about stuff that’s strictly fanfic-related. So if you want proof that I really AM still writing (for those of you not reading my Broken sequel), you can go there and read my ramblings about it. It’s linked as “Dreamer’s Diary” on the Webmistress page; my GreatestJournal is the one I’ll be posting the typical day-to-day stuff in.
